Could open crawlspace (no skirting) provide better ventilation?

Hi guys, I'm in the panhandle of FL with a 25 year old MH that's got typical vented vinyl skirting. Pretty humid most of the year, and it's always thick and musty when I'm doing work under it. Finally prepped to get a ground vapor barrier installed (wasn't put down when built). Not looking forward to it, but I'm hoping it will help. If I'm honest, I'm stressing though because I've only got 6 mil, which isn't the 10 or 12 that some suggest. Definitely don't have the $ to shell out for the encapsulation that they pitch either. I'll do my best with what I've got. Was thinking though...I've seen homes with an open pier and beam system without any skirting. Just wondering if that would provide the increase in ventilation that I think it could. Our skirting just doesn't seem to provide ANY ventilation, and I'm just paranoid from everything I've read about mold and radon gas (
