I have the typical plastic shower pan and there is a small crack in it. I'd like to be able to delay replacing it for at least a short while. Need to patch it for now.

Will fiberglass work if I rough it up?

Also, are these made of ABS plastic? I do have some ABS glue.

Cracks are a very common problem with the original tubs, I don;t think anyone has come up with a repair that lasts more than a few days.

I patched it with a few layers of ABS cement. We'll see how well it works. I was kind of assuming that these tubs were made of ABS and if they are, the glue should melt the surrounding surface and "weld" it together as it dries.

I have used this method to repair motorcycle plastics with great success.

Of course, it is only meant to be temporary so the tub wont leak until I can fix it. And it looks like a black square patch, so it's ugly as hell...

Unfortunately I had been putting off replacing the bathtub in our other bathroom due to age, and now it looks like I get to replace TWO baths!

FYI - it seems to have worked. Patch is solid, though I wouldn't want to put a lot of weight on it. At least it should not leak until I can fix it.

This is about 3 thick layers of ABS cement.

That is the problem, Weight. when you move around in the tub it recracks. it is a temporary fix at best, plan on a new tub or possibly replacing it with a large shower.

It will be replaced soon, but FIRST... I have to replace the full size bathtub my wife uses! Then comes my shower stall.

Happy wife, happy life...
