Six months ago, we put some dumbbells on a rack in a spare bedroom.

Last week, I noticed the seam between the two walls behind the rack is opening 1/4."

We also had a frost last week, the first in Florida. The wall on the right faces the outside of the house. The wall on the left is an internal wall.

What's causing this problem and how can we keep it from happening again?

We've started removing some of the heavier dumbbells.

We want to put a weight lifting machine (400 pound stack) in the middle of the bedroom...bad idea?

Mobile home from 2003, otherwise nice condition. No other wall issues.

Not sure how to post pictures, links are here:

Your weight rack may be situated outside the two main I beams that are under the house. If it's on a outside wall. this could be causing a sag. If so this concentrated load may need some additional blocking under the house up against the bottom of the floor joist.
Regarding work out machine. If situated between the Ibeams/center of the room you should be OK. If located on a outside wall outside the I beam location it may pose a problem such as the weight rack.

I have to agree with Ron, It looks like a floor sag issue. I would add a couple of piers and a 4x4 across the floor joists in the room to support the weight.
You may want to check the home and relevel (with a water level) if necessary.
