Preparing to paint the exterior. Will use TSP to pre-clean. What do I use to pre-clean the roof edge? It is black. Is that just dirt or do I have to use another product to clean?
Appreciate your advice.

You may find that the roof edge has been coated with an asphalt based coating such as roof sealer. If so I am not sure what to clean that with other than a wire brush.

If it's not the asphalt....

You can either Kilz it....or Sherwin Williams carries XIM. XIM will stick/seal virtually anything. If its a moldy black dirt looking stuff - soft wire brush it, then XIM it.

Appreciate the comments. Looking forward to cleaning and using that XIM product.
I think I'll leave the wire brushing to our grandsons. Thanks again.

Make sure they wear a mask when they do the wire brushing!

As a note: If you ever need to paint glass.....XIM will do it and stay put.
