Anybody have any thoughts, advice on upgrading central air.

My 10 year old unit is running fine but aging.
It's a 4 ton Goldman unit.

I'm thinking about upgrading to something with higher seers.

I can do all the installation myself and have an uncle that has an epa license for the freon.

From my looking I can get a 5 ton 18 seer unit for around 2000.

I don't know if the tiny ducts will be able to handle it.

Well since the traditional mobile home ducts are one step from formed tin foil, now would be a great time to upgrade everything.

I was afraid of that.
I really don't want to have to cut into the underbelly and fool with all that. But you are right

Good price on the equipment.
You must live in a hot area if wanting SEER upgrade.
Most times the size/ton is based on sq ft of house, R value of walls and type of windows.
5 ton would tell me your house must be over 2500 sq ft and in a hot climate.
Is it a Energy Star home?
Most I see is 4 ton and that equates to changing blower in furnace and house of 2000 and up sq ft.
If your house has a Data plate/Compliance Certificate glued up in a cabinet or behind a door it will state the max BTU duct system was designed for.
I am assuming you live in Louisiana??

I am in New York, and FWIW, my Miller package unit A/C is 28 years old, with absolutely no issues.
