I am in the process of changing out my mobile home shower drain...got it out from the top without a lot of problems, just a little bit of fuss. my question is, what is this metal ring in this picture?

Here is what the drain itself looks like.

It almost looks like a support flange for some type of gasket.

You got it Gregg. Went to the mobile home.parts dealer and it is the support flange for the drain that screws onto the bottom of the drain with the nut.

Also does anyone have any instructions for reinstall with a new one? Pretty sure I know how it goes but would just like to make 100% sure.

Not sure exactly what you have but it should be,
Put plumbers putty under flange, Drop in shower or tub base, Install rubber washer, Install cardboard or plastic washer (if it has one) Then install the nut.

If this sound not right can you post a picture of the one you have to replace the old?
