I have a dirt crawlspace and was curious whether installing an exhaust fan for spring/summer use would be helpful with reducing moisture and improving air quality.

thanx in advance for your responses

It would help, but you also need vents (standard is 1 sq foot of vent per 100 sq ft. of floor space)

Sheets of Heavy plastic on the ground will also act as a vapor barrier.

Probably not. I've been amazed at the amount of ventilation provided only by the vented skirting. I have made puddles of water from repairs that evaporated away in just a day. Like a gallon of more of standing water

so the vapor barrier should be 6ml or thicker and what type of tape should be used and where are both sold? Is this something I can buy at the big box hardware stores? Does the plastic just cover the dirt or does it ride up part of the skirting?

There is not really any "Rules" for the plastic. Since you will be working around piers, pipes & electrical there will be holes, but if you can stop 90% of it you will be in much better shape. Do the best you can and it will help.

Never seen it taped. Just loose lay, cover the dirt, not skirt
