I have 6 outside plastic shutters that I've tried to paint. They were red but over the years have faded. I want to paint them a medium blue. Bought a gallon of Olympic Exterior latex acrylic paint per recommendation from sales person. I have removed the shutters, washed them with a detergent, let dry a day and painted them. The paint is not sticking except in a few places.
Took a pressure washer and removed all the paint that would come off. Let dry.
Bought a primer that is suppose to be for vinyl, applied and let dry for a day. It's not sticking to the shutters either.
Need idea's on what to do to get the paint to stick. Really don't want to buy spray paint because I want them to match the front door that I painted with the blue and I'd have no use for the 3/4 can of paint.
Thanks for any help.

Norm, Thanks for the info. I looked at them but I'm on a really tight budget and they are more then I can spend for the size I need.

You di a good job by washing. I would also give it a sanding with 80 or 100 grit sandpaper. Just scuff the shutters a bit. Then you could try Krylon Fusion for Plastic Primer (it's a spray can) and then use the blue paint you have. You could also try Kilz Adhesion Primer. It's not the same as the Kilz we use for stain blocking. The Kilz Adhesion Primer says it is ideal for PVC which is plastic.

They do make a paint that is specially made to paint shutters that are made from the plastic. You have to make sure you get the right paint and primer or that stuff just peels off after a year or so.
