i'm planning on replacing the shingles and felt from my grandma's 14 yr old double wide mobile home (surprised it lasted so long). but i was told by someone that i would need to order "special fire proof felt for mobile homes" eh? seemed kinda strange.. i'm aware of only using light material so the structure of the home isn't compromised but.. do i really need special fire proof felt?

That's a new one on me.
If I were you though, I would seriously consider re roofing with metal over foam insulation, rather than shingles. You will increase r value, and the roof will be lighter and last longer.

to be on the safe side, you might want to check out your local building codes or ask a building inspector. a simple email to an inspector should clear things up
