Has anyone used Kraftmaid cabinets?

I'm In the process of redesiging the small, "Galley" styled kitchen with new appliance's and cabinets.

Considered the Home depot or Lowes cheap basic cabinets, but I figured plywood would be far better then mush board. Tey willbe more expensive, but I think the investment will also add to the value of the home.

I have been spending many many hours designing the improvements instead of leaving it to the HD designer people. I work cheap.

we will also have more professional installers do the work, but NOT those who freelance for Home Depot. I've heard horror stories about they're quality of work and gypo charges.

I'm in the process of redoing my kitchen as we speak. We ended up going with the cheap stock cabinets at HD due to budget, they had a 20% off sale a couple weeks ago. We got the unfinished ones and are finishing them ourselves which saved almost 1000 dollars. The quality is definitely one of those you get what you pay for things. But they will be a huge upgrade and our main goal was to change the layout and get more storage.

As for the kitchen designers at home depot I wouldn't even talk to them. I used google sketchup to design our kitchen layout and cabinet design. Took it into home depot and asked her to just look over it to make sure I wasn't missing anything. She didn't have a clue and really showed it. So I just gave her a list of the cabinets we needed. Then was told there was nobody in the whole store that could use the forklift to get them down! They ended up finding someone. But I would suggest you do all the design and layout yourself and just go in there with a list of item numbers you need. Unless your store has some more skilled workers then mine.

I'm installing them myself and have run into all sorts of "speed bumps". I've installed a handful of kitchens before but like usual anything in a MH adds another level of challenges. Walls not plumb or level and many other things. I've got 6 of the 13 cabinets in now and working on finishing the rest to install them. Those will require plumbing and electrical work to add the new dishwasher and garbage disposal we got. Along with some custom filler pieces I will have to make in order to make things work.

You might look at the finished Hampton Bay cabinets at HD. I believe they are solid wood (unlike the ready to finish ones).

Has anyone looked into Ikea cabinets? They're fairly cheap, but I'm not sure about the quality. I have an Ikea store right down the road from my job, and will have to check them out one day. My understanding is that the frames are particle board, but the drawers are solid wood.

We don't have an Ikea so I've never seen them except online.

Greg posted in one of my threads when planning for kitchen cabinets that he bought some ready to assemble cabinets that were solid wood and pretty inexpensive. I was considering trying to find a distributor but the sale at HD came along and we just went with those.

Here was my thread that Greg posted a link in, https://www.mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/v ... =6&t=10009.

Spoke briefly with HD lady cause were working on kitchen plans and I see where the profit is.
$45 to talk to a planer then $80 per cabinet to install and they don't even do plumbing or electrical. They contact 2 different "Contractors for those jobs.

At most we will need 10 cabinets of assorted sizes including one tall pantry cabinet.
I'm now investigating RTA types from various MFG's.

What? they never heard of glue? A work in progress, as usual.

The Lowe's near me sens me all of their mobile home install customer's as they as well as Home Depot won't work on mobile homes. A lot of electricians and plumbers here are that way too.

I have bought from an online RTA cabinet place before and all went well. The cabinets were pretty good for the price. But that retailer went out of business I guess. Couldn't find them online and they were a top ranking site before. You do want all wood, dove tail joints, premium hardware etc. This can be had pretty cheap, compared to the lowest priced special order cabinets. The cabinets I bought were about the same price as the in stock cheapos, but quality was more like special order.
