I have a split pack system in my manufactured house. The outside unit is Coleman I believe. The condensing coil was cleaned but not the A-coil. It is sealed by sheet metal and metal tape. Not sure I want to take that apart but would like advice. In reviewing others with this issue it was recommended that they test the capacitor and contactor. What I need to know is how to do that and what kind of meter should I use. I only have a cheap $10.00 one. Gas blower unit was serviced a few months ago and everything was fine. Need to know asap because it will be 90 degrees tomorrow. Thanks for you help. Here are some system component information gleaned from equipment labels.

Hi,
I would like to help, First thing i need to know is if the A/C unit is working. What I mean is the compressor running and the fan blades not moving or is the fan and compressor not running? If the Fan is not running you should be able to hear the compressor running if it is working. Next have you checked all the fuses or breakers for the A/C? Here is a link on how a contactor works and to test it.

Bill:
Thank you for getting back to me. So, let me answer the questions you asked in your response.

The fan blades definitely were not turning and I was not sure about the compressor when the system was on. I was uncertain what the compressor motor would sound like.

The video was great but when viewing on a dial-up connection it took a while. Also, my other problem was I did not have a meter like the one shown in he video. When I priced one at home depot it would have cost me about $100.00 tax included. Having gone through something like this with another household issue, I would like to share the following for all of those wives whose husbands are trying to save a buck.

If he has proven to be successful in doing something before, give him the support he needs else you will wind up paying 4 times as much as it would have cost to order parts from mobile home repair. Yes, I should have said know but read on. That's right Bill, I called in a pro. Another aspect of this was the potential heat wave we were to experience in about 24 hrs in a desert area. And, what did not help me was a TV report about online purchasing (i.e. scams) seen by my spouse. I have full confidence in mobilehomerepair.com and suggest to the guys to always go there first and stick with them unless they say we can't help-sorry.
