Re: Insulation?
We will be using a barrier for sure. The mold and water damamge that is there currently are a result of no barrier before. What is the best insulation to use? Vapor barrier can be applied in a couple of ways. One of the best is a spray in foam, this is expensive and might not be able to be done in ...

Re: Insulation?
I didn't know any better and just put up insulation- NO VAPOR BARRIER. And I have everything sealed, mouldings, done! I just can't rip down the walls again so I'm going from the outside in- yep, gonna take off the siding to access the walls. It's a pain, but that vapor barrier is vital! What part o...

Re: exterior walls
What do you have for insulation now? Insulation is not made to "stuff" as much as possible in. When you buy fiberglass batt insulation they make a specific size for a specific sized wall. If you stuff more insulation in and compress it, then you are actually lowering the insulations R-value.

Re: 1997 multiple water line leaks
Personally I would put a shut off valve where the pex goes to your supply line. The adapter you are planning on using is probably around 2 dollars and a shut off valve that has a pex fitting on one side and male threads on the other is around 4 bucks. So for around 2 bucks I would put a shut off at ...

Re: Installing a water softener system & water filtration system
I've never installed a softner put have done a fair amount of work with PEX. It is really easy to work with if you have the right tools. I believe they sell the tools on this site or at your local box stores. Take your time and do a good job of planning everything out. Set the softner and filter in ...

Re: 1997 multiple water line leaks
I agree with Greg about the 3/4" main lines and shut off valves. If this was me I would run the 3/4" mains and then cut where needed and use 3/4"x1/2"x3/4" "tees" and use 1/2" branch lines to your shut of valves and then braided steel supply lines to the fixtu...

Re: Shingles over Shingles?
Do a tear off, you will get a longer life out of the new roof when you start fresh instead of trying to put new shingles on top of others. Plus all the other reasons already mentioned. Since you said your shingles are blowing off you might have a little leak and a rotten peice of sheating that will ...

Re: selling a mobile home water heater...
Personally I wouldn't buy a used water heater. I just replaced my water heater this fall and it was only 9 years old. Granted with some maintenance they can last longer but I would never buy a used one that's life is half over. Since you are installing 2 seperate "on demand" heaters I woul...

Re: furnace cycles twice
The throwing in of the white towel! I was enjoying this learning experience but maybe your right, the next parts are more expensive and I would hate to just start guessing and throwing parts in. Now the real work comes trying to find a REPUTABLE HVAC company! Sometimes that can be harder than the tr...

Re: furnace cycles twice
Well it did it again this morning. I got over there right after the second cycle came on. Didn't get the meter out but I noticed there was a blue flame for about 20 seconds and then it went out. The fan continued to run for a while and then shut off.

Re: furnace cycles twice
Well Robert our hoping didn't work. Was enjoying my saturday night relaxing and the furnace cycled twice. I didn't get up to try and check any voltages, decided to take the night off. Not sure what exactly to check now but I'll try and see if I can figure something out tomorrow. So if you have any s...

Re: coleman evcon furnace
I'm sure Robert will be along and can provide more/better info but since you sound desperate I would start by testing the 5th wire that is not connected now. See if it has power when the fan is supposed to be on. Maybe this is the wire that tells the fan to come on when in auto mode and it not being...

I used a digital camera to check out my ducts this past summer and it works great. Have to get it lined up just right so it can take a couple shots to see what you want.

Re: Adding exterior underlayment?
I'm far from a mobile home expert, these things continue to puzzle me everyday on the ways they are put together but I do have a far amount of knowledge in construction and have built a couple of garages. I know that the sheating provides a great deal of strength to the walls. When a wall is standin...
