the usual extra security locks are either a screw type device that screws onto the edge of the window track, or a piece of wood or metal put into the track to prevent the window from sliding in the track.....

Be glad the trim product didn't stick... one other thing to check for.... make sure there are no gfi outlets on the circuit and that they are not tripped.... a friend of mines outdoor outlet was getting wet, and was causing the gfi outlet inside the garage to trip because it was on the same circuit, which in turn was doing something strang...

maybe get the molding that is water proof (it is white, made of pvc, it is for bathrooms, and some is for garage doors) and make your own flange/frame around the new vent.... install it with screws and caulk...? just an idea.... likely to last longer than wood....
