Re: Leaks around vent pipes

I used peel and seal ......its a very thick flashing tape with aluminum face and butyl rubber as the adhesive backing. make sure you read up on this product before using it......it works very well , but only if it is put down correctly. u have to get rid of ALL old SEALANTS .....especially silicone ...

Re: This Caulk Will NOT come off

I had quite a few places on the exterior wall that had the silicone caulk stuck on. since the ammonia ran down the wall, i got some goof off caulk remover........that worked pretty well. basically just loosens and softens it so it can be manually lifted up. don't let it stay on much longer than what...

aluminum siding -can i use roofing panels

mobile home has corrugated aluminum siding. much of it is very thin, porous and in need of being replaced. I have no knowledge in this department, so pardon me if my question sounds crazy. can the corrugated metal panels for roofing be used as siding also? and if so, would the whole thing have to be...

in hot/ humid climates, vented mh crawlspaces are not recommended.

may as well be a basement.....seems lke a lot of work involved to get it conditioned http://www.builderonline.com/energy-efficientconstruction/best-practices-closed-crawlspaces_1.aspx "Basically a crawlspace should be built like a very short, conditioned basement" -----> http://www.dos.ny...

Re: Skirting Vents?

"building america has done a lot of research on this topic and its now believed that in many climates, vented crawlspaces cause moisture problems. you will have to research what is recommended for your climate, but the ideal crawlspace is unvented and conditioned, which results in cleaner insid...

can this get rid of wood rot and termites ?

**disclaimer** found this concoction to make Tim-bor and Bora-care. I have not tried this but I'm posting here to see what you think of it. ***ethylene glycol is HIGHLY POISONOUS to animals. even in small amounts, it is fatal. if it is applied to any object that an animal may come in contact with, t...

Re: damned you great gross stuff (foam)

i sprayed it from the inside of the house. more than likely it had already got wet where i applied it. i guess what i should have said was dont spray this mess where you can't see it. thing is, i have put this stuff in window crevices around the same time....just hoping it isn't rotten there too.......

Re: damned you great gross stuff (foam)

about six months ago i used it where the bottom of the outside wall meets the floor, where I had pulled the carpet out and had to aggressively yank it out. it created what i thought was a gap so i squirted some spray foam there.

damned you great gross stuff (foam)

the big hype about spray foam insulation is just that- hype. truth is, it's not as great as I thought it was. I put the great stuff in the exterior walls (boards) in a few places (thank god it was too expensive to put it everywhere) ....about 5 out of the 10 areas where I applied it had soggy wet sp...

Oxidation on aluminum siding ...how to paint

or at least I think its oxidation. the old paint has faded .... and in many spots it has worn down to white....the texture is slightly chalky and rough. I got some cheapo rustoleum semi- high gloss protective enamel beige color that im putting on as the first coat and rustoleum smooth protective ena...

Re: This Caulk Will NOT come off

thanks for the info everyone.....i used an oscillating tool with a scraper which does lift it up pretty good, but im not very skilled at using the thing and kept denting the roof. so.... I didn't feel like going to the store so i soaked a few bounty towels with some household ammonia, laid it agains...
