Re: Whole home water filtration systems

All I can say is read, read and read some more. look at the reviews, but take into consideration the customers that can't be satisfied no mater what you do. Look for common problems.

Re: Load Bearing Wall HELP

I doubt that the short offset wall is load bearing. the wall directly under the marriage seam IS load bearing.
At worse case you could add a support post.

Re: Installing Security Cameras Without Eves To Hide & Shade

I mounted mine inside the window when I was in the park. Since we moved out of that hole we don't need them.

Re: General plumbing questions

It is not a really tough job, but you WILL have to crawl around under the home. Plan on getting at least dripped on since you will be working under the pipes. Make sure you have the proper PEX tools to make your connections. DO NOT use the push lock type connectors in areas that are out of sight, I ...

Re: General plumbing questions

You can attach new pex and pull it through, just like you can win the $150 mil. lottery and the odds are about the same. The lines usually run up the middle of the home with the heat ducts to keep them warm in cold weather. You may be able to make a few well placed slices in the underbelly and work ...

I believe you will need to use weather proof boxes with GFI to meet code, most are surface mount.

Re: Raising wall height

I don't think the extra foot of wall would add that much extra weight, you can always add parameter blocking to support the extra weight.
I would do a complete inspection before doing any work and figure all costs, you may find that it is not worth the project cost.

In cases where severe moisture is a problem I could see the use forced air movement. If you have "normal" moisture than the standard natural air flow should be fine.

Re: What water lines get heat tape?

The service line from the ground gets heat taped & insulated. You have a copper line running outside your home? I'm a little confused on that one. There should be an outlet onder your home to plug into. If not you may want to add one possibly with a switch to turn the heat tape off in warm weath...

Re: Steps for side door

Home centers have the precut stair stringers so all you would need to do is attach them and add treads. You may need to add a handrail to meet code depending on height.
Should be able to do basic stairs for $50 -75 depending on your area.

Re: Sub Floors and vapor barrier

I think I would take care of the soft spots first and find out why they are soft. It you have leakage, take care of that problem then get things sealed up.
If you have particle board subfloors replace the bad spots with plywood or at the very least OSB.

Re: Tub replacement - Blevins/Lyons acrylic shower?

many have had no problems with acrylic, many home centers can order units in for you. You may find that you can move a wall with out much problem and fit a larger unit in.

Re: Cracked shower pan

That is the problem, Weight. when you move around in the tub it recracks. it is a temporary fix at best, plan on a new tub or possibly replacing it with a large shower.
