RE: vinyl wall board painting techniques

How timely this is! I just spent the weekend removing batten strips, taping and mudding, then texturing the walls with joint compound. A tip to help prevent breaking the strips, is to carefully run your tool (I used a 5 in 1 tool, that has the curved side to clean paint rollers) under the top nail/b...

RE: Peeling Paint

You might look into liquid sandpaper. I have no experience with it personally, but have seen it used a lot on TV. Also, was your first primer a "bonding" primer, one that's meant to bond with the surface, even a smooth one, then accept paint? This is different from the regular primer that ...

Re: Painting Exterior

....... We bought this place at the beach in July. It is our piece of paradise. We had an older travel trailer and this being permanent has given us more room, and unlimited possibilities. I have done a lot of remodeling inside, paint and new flooring... now for the outside. I have before and after...

RE: Can I wallpaper directly over the battans in my doublewi

Daridoodle, I used joint compound on my daughter's wall. Like Yanita said, it's just troweled on and around until you get the look you like. This one isn't as subtle as it looks in the pic. You can see the texture better in person, and if and when she lets me add a glaze over the paint, it'll really...

RE: Can I wallpaper directly over the battans in my doublewi

Daridoodle, how do you feel about textured walls? I ask because that's one way to disguise the seams, but I realize that not everyone likes texture. I did this in my daughter's hallway, and covered the seams as well as a badly damaged wall. Here's a pic. It's kinda plain, just painted beige, which i...

Georgia, Kilz makes different primers for different purposes. Is the one you used a "bonding" primer? That stuff should bond with glass! I can't remember from your first post, did you ever use Zinsser? The can says it bonds with any surface without sanding, and the lid says, "The Pro'...

Re: RE: Tile for backsplash in kitchen?

Thanks Trudi - this is another picture of the kitchen. Yess....this IS the entire kitchen. It's about as tiny as they get, but it's really not that bad. I've prepared a few larger meals here but mostly it's just me and my dogs.......when I was married, we both were comfortable here on weekends. I a...

Re: RE: Tile for backsplash in kitchen?

My ex surprised me a few years ago and put tile right on top of the original formica countertops. This was his first time doing a counter job so it isn't at all great-looking, but it's better than what was there. It has held up so far so good. I agree that the grout is horrible to get clean. If/whe...
