Re: Ceiling - sheetrock failure
I had the roof replaced after this issue had surfaced. It appears that there was likely a small leak from one of the vents that were part of the old/original roof: the new roof's ridge-cap vent has eliminated the vents. Within two months after purchasing the house I had the roof replaced (before I e...

Re: Wood stove installation - placement questions
Jim, many thanks for your thorough reply. I've been a bit busy and had forgot to check back here... You stated that you wouldn't put a stove on top of laminates. Does this apply to putting down a hearth on top of the laminates as well (which was really the intent of my question)? I'd like to not hav...

Re: CPVC to PEX for intermediate plumbing
Just to try and clarify a couple of things... It IS CPVC. And, it's all original, except, perhaps, for a braided line for the kitchen faucet (maybe from initial install [optional equipment] of dishwasher?). As recently posted, I gave up on the notion of doing any hacking and was able to meet my requ...

Re: CPVC to PEX for intermediate plumbing
Hi folks, sorry for the delay in posting (been busy; plus, hadn't had the e-mail notifier set up on this thread [my mistake]). The home is a 1998 Champion. Not sure of the model. The pipes are all [C]PVC. They are color coded: red line for hot, blue for cold. I had picked up some shark bite fittings...

Re: Ceiling - sheetrock failure
Hi Greg, No signs that I can detect. It's possible that someone hid previous damage, but based on how other things have been done I doubt that there was any real quality repair performed (meaning, I should be able to see any repairs). I can take a closer look at the piece of sheetrock that I broke o...

Ceiling - sheetrock failure
Any ideas on what sort of repair work would be involved with this? I broke out some of the sheetrock so that things are more exposed. There wasn't, as far as I could tell, any staining or discoloration; that is, no clear signs of water damage (though it has the appearance of it). I bought the place ...

Re: Laminate flooring, orientation, transitions and entrance
Hi Arlo, it's Harvest Oak.
I've been kind of off radar, doing plumbing and electrical work in a pump house. Only other inside project will be to fix a spot in the ceiling in the master bedroom.

Re: leveling floor for laminate
I've only had one experience here, though it was pretty intense... Ended up using perhaps a couple hundred pounds of compound. Much of this story can be found here: https://www.mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7996 My floor (of my newly purchased 1997 home) looked like it was manuf...

Re: Laminate flooring, orientation, transitions and entrance
I survived! Finished laying laminates (well, OK, I have a couple of pieces to put down in a doorway to a back bedroom, and I need to do the transitions, and one day I'll do moldings, but basically I'm done with the flooring). Had lots of doubts whether I could get the floor level/straight enough, es...

Re: Drain for hot water heater pan
Yeah, that's what I though, but just wanted to make sure. My original layman's concern was over the T&P- the exhaust vent would be a fairly obvious to me (as a layman) no-no to combine

Re: Laminate flooring, orientation, transitions and entrance
Thanks Greg! Many thanks to you and all the others here for helping keep my motivation up. I'll be doing a pour in the dining room this morning (hoping I have enough leveler!) and hope that this will be the last of it! Dining room has required a lot more precision due to the fact that it will be tyi...

Re: Drain for hot water heater pan
I feel a bit stupid, what's an "TPR vent?" Is this the pressure relief overflow? (uncertain of nomenclature)

Re: CPVC to PEX for intermediate plumbing
Folks at Lowe's were pretty perplexed as well. But that's what's printed on the pipe, 5/8" OD (and it actually measures out as such)! It looks like it's going to be more of a hassle to try and stub this for PEX than it's worth and that I'm better off saving my energy and money until I'm ready t...
