Re: Siding damage from deck?

Removed the side brickmoldings (no issues with the top- will remove later) and cut out the bad sections of siding. Good news: The problem area is fairly well constrained to just under the door. Bad news: The rim joist(?) has water/rot damage. I can also see that the floor decking is wasted along the...

Re: Siding damage from deck?

Hi Aaron. I'm kind of juggling things right now (building chicken brooders, clearing and cleaning land etc.) and waiting for the current rainfall to curtail before I yank off the brickmold and probe further. I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'd be replacing the entire door and frame (p...

Re: Siding damage from deck?

I've got all deck material removed: would post a picture, but unable to- "board attachment quota has been reached." There's about 1 foot of affected/rotted/soft siding material at the bottom corners under the door sill (extending up a bit on the right-hand side) . The size of the siding un...

Re: Siding damage from deck?

Thanks, Greg. The screws were a bit rusty and ended up breaking. Ended up auguring the wood above all the screws (drilling the heads out wasn't working) and pounded the board down, that and chiseling... One of those things that fights you to the bitter end... but, the board is off and I now have ful...

Re: Siding damage from deck?

As is typical, things weren't as easy as hoped... Ended up having to cut the deck off, as I was unable to get the screws out (stupid torque screws). And, to pull the deck away from the home I used my tractor, which, to add more complication, needed to be jump started! All this because someone failed...

Re: Siding damage from deck?

Grr... took a closer look, the deck is screwed into the side of the home! I suspect, however, that it's not structural, that it's just to keep the deck from moving away from the home. I wasn't in the mood to take out the screws, but will look to do so in a few days (am working long hours right now, ...

Siding damage from deck?

I need to replace my entire rear door due to damage from a break-in (occurred prior to my ownership). I'd taken out a 2x2? support piece that was nailed underneath the threshold plate, to the siding: I believe this is from the original construction. This piece was pretty much rotted. At issue is the...

Re: Ceiling - sheetrock failure

I had the roof replaced after this issue had surfaced. It appears that there was likely a small leak from one of the vents that were part of the old/original roof: the new roof's ridge-cap vent has eliminated the vents. Within two months after purchasing the house I had the roof replaced (before I e...

Re: Wood stove installation - placement questions

Jim, many thanks for your thorough reply. I've been a bit busy and had forgot to check back here... You stated that you wouldn't put a stove on top of laminates. Does this apply to putting down a hearth on top of the laminates as well (which was really the intent of my question)? I'd like to not hav...

Re: CPVC to PEX for intermediate plumbing

Just to try and clarify a couple of things... It IS CPVC. And, it's all original, except, perhaps, for a braided line for the kitchen faucet (maybe from initial install [optional equipment] of dishwasher?). As recently posted, I gave up on the notion of doing any hacking and was able to meet my requ...

Re: CPVC to PEX for intermediate plumbing

Hi folks, sorry for the delay in posting (been busy; plus, hadn't had the e-mail notifier set up on this thread [my mistake]). The home is a 1998 Champion. Not sure of the model. The pipes are all [C]PVC. They are color coded: red line for hot, blue for cold. I had picked up some shark bite fittings...

Re: Ceiling - sheetrock failure

Hi Greg, No signs that I can detect. It's possible that someone hid previous damage, but based on how other things have been done I doubt that there was any real quality repair performed (meaning, I should be able to see any repairs). I can take a closer look at the piece of sheetrock that I broke o...

Ceiling - sheetrock failure

Any ideas on what sort of repair work would be involved with this? I broke out some of the sheetrock so that things are more exposed. There wasn't, as far as I could tell, any staining or discoloration; that is, no clear signs of water damage (though it has the appearance of it). I bought the place ...

Re: Laminate flooring, orientation, transitions and entrance

Hi Arlo, it's Harvest Oak.

I've been kind of off radar, doing plumbing and electrical work in a pump house. Only other inside project will be to fix a spot in the ceiling in the master bedroom.

Re: leveling floor for laminate

I've only had one experience here, though it was pretty intense... Ended up using perhaps a couple hundred pounds of compound. Much of this story can be found here: https://www.mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7996 My floor (of my newly purchased 1997 home) looked like it was manuf...
