Painting Subfloor?
I pulled the NASTY carpet from the front hallway and will be doing the same in the laundry area soon (the subfloor needs replaced in the laundry area). There are will also be a need to remove the vinyl from the floor in the kitchen as I'm installing new cabinets and in one particular location, the o...

Installing standard tub?
I thought I remember reading that MH tubs are "special" in that the bottom is higher than normal to allow the trap to be above the floor. If I want to install a standard tub (from Lowes or Menards), should I just put the trap between the joists above the insulation?

Re: Making a level 65 foot chalk line
You could use a water level (what they it use to level the home) to make two level marks at the ends and then snap your line between the marks.

Re: Major remodel to save money on rent. Need advice!
I don't think you should do it based on potential resale as I don't think you'll get as good a return as you're expecting. But if you plan to stay there for a considerable length of time and maybe even rent it out if/when you do decide to move, then it COULD be a wise move. But if you're doing this ...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
That probably would be a better bottom trim, Don. My main problem with all wood skirting and some of the faux brick/stone stuff is that it needs framing. With 2x going from the rim joist to the ground, there is no room for ground movement, roots or frost heave. This solid connection can create dama...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
Regarding the suggestion of using a baseboard trim and then just replacing it when it rots:
They have a PVC product that you use just like wood that would work well for this purpose and you wouldn't have to worry about it rotting.

Re: The number of down spouts for a rain gutter
Nest,
Yes you're correct - - water will find its own level. But if the gutter is level, there will still be some water pooling in it.
Even a slight slope will prevent that.

Re: The number of down spouts for a rain gutter
Greg: Would you slope the gutters from middle towards then ends then? Nest: If you want to avoid having to bury an underground pipe, you could run a 4" pipe right behind the skirting on one side (and across the end to the other side). Run the pipe so that it come through the skirt in 3 places: ...

Re: Bathroom fans
If the fan works fine when connected directly to the panel (not via a switch) then the fan should be ok. How are you connecting to the switch? EDIT: make sure you're connecting the white from the panel directly to the white from the fan (it shouldn't touch the switch). Then connect each of the black...

Re: Does anyone know what this trim piece is called?
Thanks JD. I never even thought of that. I did have a local HVAC Co fabricate a panel to cover my furnace compartment. I bet they'd do this for me. Greg: the beige color panel overlaps the brown panel below. The trim piece in question hides the seam. Water easily goes behind the trim so it's not fla...

Re: Does anyone know what this trim piece is called?
Thanks. But I don't think it could be replicated with a brake. It's got too wavy of a profile. I guess I could replace it all with straight/flat trim pieces though. As to the color issue: not a concern. I'm planning to paint the place a completely different color scheme anyway. Right now, I'm lookin...

Does anyone know what this trim piece is called?
Does anyone know what this is called? And do you know how I would go about replacing it? It's got several dents and in a few places, it is so bent out of shape, it won't attach to the house correctly. It's a horizontal trim piece that covers the overlap between the two colors of siding. MHTrim.png

Re: Kitchen sink dilemma
My husband and I just installed this new sink 2 days ago. I am so excited to say, It Fits!!! :) He had to do a little cutting on the countertop to make it all work, but it fit and it really does look so great! As soon as my laminate guy comes and does my new laminate, I will take a pic and upload. ...

That looks really nice. I've been trying to decide what I wanted to do for a backsplash. I'll have add bead board the list of possibilities.
