Blinking lights...and they are not supposed to!

I need some expert opinions regarding electrical. 95 Skyline, and in the guest bathroom, if a hair dryer is plugged in, the lights dim. Now, one of the lights is not staying on, it shuts itself off after a few min. I keep reading about electrical being the main cause of fires in these things, which ...

Re: pipe reduction

The reduction of flow is not what concerns me, I was more afraid of blowing out any of the piping. Is there any chance of that? Our water pressure from that line is normally very strong, I don't need any form of pump for my sprinklers, which in other places were a necessity. It's probably my lack of...

pipe reduction

I could use some expert advice on plumbing.... We have irrigation, and house water and the two come from separate sources. The irrigation line comes in at 3/4 pipe size, and runs all sprinklers and outside needs. We had no emergency shut off valve, so when the pipe leaks, I have to reach into the gr...

Re: The dreaded spot....

That's exactly what it looks like! I sprayed it with a mixture of bleach/water and it is basically gone. I found more in the kitchen, around the light, and assumed it was food thrown at the ceiling, but what you said makes more sense. In both areas, bleach/water took care of it, and we can paint wit...

The dreaded spot....

Thank you one and all for responding on the roof questions....you don't know how much I appreciate them! Here, I have included a picture of a stain that has been on the ceiling since we moved in a little over a year ago. (painting ceilings is last on the list of upgrades) So...after having roofing c...

Different replies, which is correct?

I hate being at the mercy of others. We are getting roofing estimates, and 2 say it's ok to lay over new shingle on the existing roof and 1 says no, it's not...a weight issue. When I question the 2 who feel it's ok, I'm told that it is not an issue and they do it all the time. At this point, I don't...

Re: Total Remodel - Project 3: Drywall & Insulation

Looking good! It's motivational :) I wanted to share with you how we measured drywall and beadboard (because my skills are seriously lacking in that department). Saw this on a DIY program and it worked! Outline the outlets with lipstick, yep, womens lipstick. Press the drywall or board where you wan...

On the subject of belly's....

We had our wood burning stove removed, which included the pipe that ran into the floor, and chimney that is in the ceiling. We didn't removed the entire pipe into the floor, just the inner one, replacing the whole with a plug made special for stove pipes, a very tight fit. Should I have someone craw...

My husband thinks I'm nuts, and he could be right. We live in a warm, dry climate (I know, most think all of WA is wet and soggy, not so!)...this promotes spiders in dark places. Like under the house. So far, we have not had real issues, but without any freezing weather this year, they will be out i...

Morning.... Has anyone ever used wall paper in a MH? I have walls that were vinyl covered sheetrock, (built in 95), since painted with 2 coats of satin sheen, paint/primer. I would love to put up wall paper, but I'm terrified the wall will crumble, or absorb the water and mold. Anyone have success w...

All is not equal....

Just a rant. But, why can't things be square and exact ?? Measuring for doors, and you would think in a home manufactured in a factory, things would be much easier. Everything we touch is off by an inth degree. It can't be 46 inches, it has to be 45 and 3/8, or so...and one is not the same as the ne...

Re: Question about interior doors

Our door jambs are ugly fake wood looking stuff. I want to have real wood there. I am going to see if my husband thinks he can just redo the door jambs himself. If not...try painting them. We had the same thing, and being tight with money...we couldn't afford to redo all the jams. After scouring wi...

Re: Question about interior doors

Hi! I too hate these cheap doors...and I LOVE the look of the old solid doors with keyholes...so I went to a junk dealer and found LOTS. If you can find someone that is in construction, they might know of a place that re-sells old windows, doors, etc. Go too big, always easier to cut down a door, th...

corners

Still working on corners....quick question. I ran out of metal bead strips and have two corners left to finish....(outside corners). Both look clean, the sheetrock is tight, where it joins. Can I just mudd over the corner, without the metal bead?? I have tape, and was trying to avoid another trip to...

Re: removing batten strips

Hi, I am by no means an expert, it's strictly trial by error here! I hated the strips, so removed them all and used paintable caulk to fill in seams, and inside corners (working on outside corners now with a metal bead frame, mudd and LOTS of feathering and sanding)....painted over the caulk, and so...
