Re: Replacing old Poly stuff with PEX, have ?
I'm a little late to the party here but I will second the 3/4" PEX for the main run. 1/2" is too small and the thing with pex unlike copper is the fittings go on the inside of the tubing so the opening diameter gets even smaller at the fittings and restricts flow. 3/4" for mains and t...

Re: General Liability Insurance for MH Installers
If all you want to do is fix two piers then I think I would just go under and do that without pulling a permit. It's not like you are planning on setting up or moving the mobile home or even really changing anything. I'm usually one for following the rules but sometimes it just doesn't make a lot of...

Re: Replace urine soaked insulation
You want unfaced, like you said your underbelly is the vapor barrier and no need for faced. Long sleeves and gloves should be fine and you can duct tape them if you need to. When I have to do something like this I will pull out all the insulation I can reach through the hole. Then stick my head up t...

Re: gas water heater leaking?
I will second Greg's dislike of push lock(sharkbite style) connectors. I also have never seen a licensed plumber use them. First of all the are way more expensive then crimp on fittings. I have also never had a crimp on fitting, either a ring or cinch ear type leak. Just not worth the chance in my o...

Re: Water heater filling through hot out?
Just to be clear, if both the cold in and hot out are disconnected from the water heater and you turn the main water on then water comes out the "hot output" line? And nothing comes out of the cold input line? If this is what is happening then whoever hooked it up plumbed the lines backwar...

Re: Would you recommend painting a popcorn ceiling?
Asbestos was out in the late 70s and early 80s so you are fine there. Scraping it off is a messy job. Here's an article about painting popcorn ceilings, http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/painting-a-popcorn-ceiling/index.html. You can do it if you're careful otherwise it will soften like Greg said. Us...

Re: How much paint for inside?
I just did a 16' by 70'. The kitchen is the first 16' and we painted that with about one gallon by hand. Lots of cabinets so not a lot of wall area to paint. We also used a quality primer for the whole trailer. Then I bought a 5 gallon pail of paint and sprayed the rest of the trailer with my airles...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
You're correct in that nobody said OSB is waterproof. But you did state that "OSB is resistant to moisture damage" and that really isn't true. OSB will hold up better to moisture then particle board but OSB is not resistant to moisture damage. OSB will be damaged by moisture, I've seen it ...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
I'm going to make one more post and then we can agree to disagree I guess. The word "quickly" can have different meanings in different environments. I have seen OSB deteriorate quickly. So to say that is false, is false. The simple fact is OSB is NOT meant to be used where it will be expos...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
Properties OSB, closeup of corner. Adjustments to the manufacturing process can impart differences in thickness, panel size, strength, and rigidity. OSB panels have no internal gaps or voids, and are water-resistant, although they do require additional membranes to achieve impermeability to water a...

Re: insulating osb board underpinning
OSB is not moisture resistant and will expand and weaken when exposed to the elements for a period of time. It is more durable then particle board(MDF) but isn't rated to be exposed. It can take some moisture and not completely fall apart. But a prolonged exposure and it will also be damaged.

Re: Painting
I'm honestly not sure what I would do in that situation. The problem is that even if you cover up the bad paint job with a good one the bad layer can still peel and pop like you are seeing. Do you have a paint store local to you? If so bring in some pictures and talk to them and see if they have som...

Re: The number of down spouts for a rain gutter
What size gutters and down spouts are you using? 66 feet is a long run for a down spout on only one end. If this was mine I would put a down spout at each end. At the "high" end I would bury the down spout. Dig a trench and slope it down and run it all the way to the other end and then let...

I'm not following you here. So they ran a new "crossover" from the heat pump to one side of ducts? But then cut the crossover connecting the two sides together?

Re: Painting
It's hard to tell from you picture but you said the just painted over the wall paper and is that the wall paper above the window? Did the paint peel off of that area? If so you are going to continue to have problems with paint peeling because they didn't prep the area right and used a cheap paint. I...
