I'm in north Texas with a 28 x 44 dblwide. I was phone quoted $1700 - just to start. I don't know if that is a competitive rate - but I will be doing it myself....

Re: Water heater relief valve?

I know most just plumb through the floor into the crawl space...but! I had to go under the house for something....and could hear water sounds. Turns out the relief valve was leaking....and who knows for how long. Of course it is just pvc...so I added on to it to so that it exits through the skirting...

Water Heater drain in wrong place

I've had a couple issues with my water heater...and being I've been here 10+ years, I'm sure it's about time to replace it. My problem isn't putting a new one in - it's getting the old one out. The knucklehead who set this unit (same knucklehead who used drywall screws to build a massive deck cuz 't...

Re: The cursed electrical outlets!

Agree with Greg. 100%!!! Absolutely!! About the only thing those 'clip ons' are good for is not making me feel bad when I chunk one in the trash. I have replaced a good number on mine - and will continue to eliminate these as time permits (or another one of them gets flaky). A box and outlet is less...

Re: What kind of caulk do you recommend for trim?

In the course of doing commercial/residential drywall and painting, I learned caulking is as much science as it is art. I don't recall ever using a non-latex caulk - at all. The thing to note is that caulking is not an adhesive. It is not glue. It is a filler and sealant for non-porous surfaces. App...

Re: what are Tie Down rods for: One purpose only or many?

you gotta wonder if your mobile home gets hit by a f5 tornado or monster hurricane, whats the use of having tie downs if all of your possessions are somewhere in the next county? I used to feel my dbl wide was "inadequate" due to tornadoes. But a few years back a little f1 came down near ...

Re: what are Tie Down rods for: One purpose only or many?

This is a bit of a tangent ... but figured it a good "heads up" to any Vets who might be using their VA Loan benny to buy a mobile home. The VA does require the tie downs. But! (there's always a but!) if the purchase is for a home that is already set - then pay attention. I bought this pla...

Re: How difficult to remove a garden tub

You may also need to fire up the saws-all and cut the drain loose. If there are removable side panels, you may be able to access the drain right below the tub and cut it. If all else fails, use a short blade - even a jig saw - and just cut around the drain from the topside.

Re: Installing New windows

I replaced all of my windows just a couple years back. I bought all but one at HD, the other at Lowe's. All were special order to get the right sizing. Neither place charged extra fro the special sizing. Oh...I went with the new install with the nail fins. I started with the windows that were all th...

Re: Ledger Board

Have to agree about not attaching to the house. Previous owners here did just that - and the facia rotted in no time. That cardboard stuff likes to breathe! They also thought it would be a good idea to silicone the top edge of their ledger so that rain water wouldn't get in behind it. I'll spare ya'...

Re: Floor insulation and use of rigid polystyrene as belly b

Concrete would be the ultimate answer!....but it still won't seal up the bottom side of this monstrosity. Is it safe to assume that the floor joists are on either 24 or 16" centers? The polystyrene mentioned above is about $11 a 4x8 sheet. And there is the "eraser board" sheets for ab...

Re: Floor insulation and use of rigid polystyrene as belly b

My ears were burnin! My water heater quit working recently...and a trip down under found the area under the water heater open...and yep, rats had chewed the wiring. Add that I have patched the belly on this thing again and again due to the previous owner's incomplete repairs. And sometimes, when the...

I've got the same 'phobia'. I'm fine with them being what they are...just not near me. But! To offer you a solution....FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH and a regular leaf blower. Make absolute 100% certain you get the "food grade" as anything less can cause lots of respiratory issues. PUT ON ...
