Skirting vents oriented vertically?
I'm working up plans to replace my existing skirting, with metal roofing material. The vents that I'm am considering (best candidates) are rectangular, 16" x 8", and if oriented horizontally (long axis- 16") they would hit on the major ribs of the roofing material (I think 9" rib...

Re: Junction box wiring above laundry
I hate mystery wiring, but this looks like a factory job: the ground looks factory. Kind of looks like it was just for splicing wire runs, perhaps a standard production that meant to facilitate an optional device, a stub-in? One shoudln't, however, look to use this for some device without ensuring t...

Re: Skirting: Are automatic vents a good idea?
After reviewing my ventilation requirements I'm figuring I'll just go with standard vents. Cheap, flat screen (which I currently have) at 16" x 8" provide for 70.7 sq-in of open space. At 1' of open ventilation space for each 150' of floor space I come out to needing 9.18 sq-ft, or approxi...

Re: What is this called?
It's a round work box: https://www.thespruce.com/electrical-switch-and-junction-boxes-1824666 (see #6). I'm wanting to say that the material used for the box you're showing is bakelite: not sure if anyone really uses it anymore? Just go with whatever is available (might need one that's specifically ...

Re: Skirting: Are automatic vents a good idea?
Greg, are there not moisture concerns when there is no ventilation? I know that when it's extremely cold that humidity levels tend to be very low. Do you target based on up-coming temps, in which case what temps trigger you into action, or just a general date?

Skirting: Are automatic vents a good idea?
I'm doing some research on replacing my skirting and ran across a mention of automatic vents, vents that open and close based on temperature (usually(?) opens above 40 degrees, fully at 70 degrees). Is it really OK to completely close off air circulation below 40 degrees? Isn't venting about managin...

Re: Options on Leaking Roof
When we bought our place there had been a patch job on the roof. I had the roofing replaced with metal (and did not look back!): no repairs to the decking was needed, so the leak had not really compromised anything (other than some sheet rock on a part of the ceiling- I'm finally getting around to d...

Re: Where to get bathroom exhaust fans
Unable to find any applicable candidates outside of the manufactured home ones. Ended up, after calling and talking to someone, ordering a couple of 75 cfm Ventlines from an Internet company that didn't charge an arm and a leg for shipping: unit pricing was also low (lowest?). Might not be the quiet...

Where to get bathroom exhaust fans
I'm wanting to to get more powerful exhaust fans in our bathrooms. Looks like my only option, sans extensive work, is to replace with similar units. Currently installed are Ventline V2244 50 cfm units (7" ducting connection) WITH lights. Bathrooms are about 50 sq-ft, which according to general ...

Re: No access to shower plumbing
Here's the guest bath's shower faucet connections (just showing one water line, cold- the other one is the same). These appear to be swivel fittings? gBath.jpg The one in the master bath is likely the same. I "might" be able to go direct with PEX. Don't know whether I'd be able to get away...

Re: No access to shower plumbing
You're right. I should, instead, do PEX-A to CPVC adapters. But, I'm getting a little ahead of myself because I have no idea how the connections to the bath/shower faucets are: will try and get around to accessing the guest bathroom's connections.

Re: Shifting under-sink water lines
Greg, For sure, ALL valves are will be replaced. That includes the washer ones too: though the current ones are brass I'm going to go with PEX in order to reduce fitting connections. I was just kind of wondering what other people do, whether they look to wall-mount the lines: would likely have to at...

Shifting under-sink water lines
The piping for my bathroom sinks are toward the middle of the cabinet. I was hoping that when I go to do my piping re-plumb (with PEX) that I can shift those lines back toward the wall. Wondering if I can just run up against the wall using drop ears. Here's a picture of what it looks like under the ...

Re: No access to shower plumbing
Hi, Greg! Yeah, that's kind of what this is looking like. I know I could probably pull the shower enclosure, but it's a lot more work than I'd like. One option might be to just run PEX to the existing faucet, connecting with sharkbite (PEX->CVPC) fittings, and then look to finish it off properly whe...

Re: No access to shower plumbing
Found this thread to be of interest (it popped up in my search for "drop ear"): https://www.mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5875&sid=ac0fa3cfee79d260b966eecbe0b2473c Still doesn't address what can be done if you don't have access. As my guest bath has an access panel...
