Re: Photos of remodeling plans

I'd really like to see your project as it goes along. I live in VA and I *think* I know what town you are working in. I've had in mind doing something similar when my kids are college age. I hate the idea of wasting money on rent. Your additions are a bad idea investment wise. Mobiles that are enclo...

Re: Painting the walls

Love the Zinser for most priming needs BUT Kilz OIL BASE is the best primer for water stains. You can get a spray can of it to spot prime the water stains and finish the rest of the ceiling with what ever other primer you already have. If you do still need blue tape the blue tape at Big Lots and Dol...

Re: H1N1

I know of several cases where I live. Almost all are middle and high schoolers. My daughter's best friend's brother is 14 and had it for 8 days. He's a healthy football player. If your kids have flu symptoms they should see a doctor. Go to your health department if you don't have health insurance. T...

That second photo looks just like my place. I was gonna ask if I should put more blocks under the marble column. But seriously just about the day I first read his/her post I started getting LOTS of spam advertising mostly online schools.

RE: New Washer and Dryer?

Harry, those sound like the Sears washer and dryer combo I bought in 1983 for first house. I moved before they ever quit. No question then that they were built in U.S. I think I will check them out. I do want the biggest capacity due to three kids. I can't keep up with the beach towels this summer.

New Washer and Dryer?

I'm thinking about the purchase of a new washer and dryer since I have problems with mine and they are on sale due to July 4 week. I usually get the cheapest, basic, super capacity top load style I can find. My dryer seems to have a burned out heating element and the washer bearings have gotten very...

RE: My Somewhat Secret Garden

Wow. I think you have the very best landscaping I've seen on this forum. It's like a private courtyard! You should set up a personal album on this site so these pictures will be easy for others to access. You ARE an artist.

I haven't had this problem but try a little nail polish remover on a spot. If it works buy a can of acetone which is polish remover's active ingredient. A gallon is about $14.00 at Walmart paint department.

I just want to let you know that when you use a can, use it all. Learned the hard $$$ way. I used the regular kind around the perimeter of a room where floors meet walls before I put down laminate floor. Then covered it with molding. I know it cut some drafts and it didn't cause bulges or racking. I...

RE: Beadboard wainscotting

Check Fypon.com. They make a line of PVC beadboard panels. I have it between the top of the shower walls and ceiling. You can order Fypon products from the contractor counter at Lowes. I'm not sure if Home Depot carries it.

RE: i have a question about interior doors

The doors are cut short - about 2 inches off the floor- for air return. I understand the heat/ac won't work well if you replace them with long doors.

RE: What color are YOUR cabinets?

Measure each and every cabinet door and drawer front and call one of those companies that sell cabinet resurfacing. Offer to buy the old doors off one of their jobs. A friend got some very cheap ($5.00 each) because they usually haul their customers old doors to the dump. The only problem I see is t...

RE: Which should I use?

I have the wood paneling so its got vertical grooves every 6 inches or so. It would look funny to have no groove every 4 feet where the panels meet. The former owner of my house used a vinyl caulk between the panels and it still looks great after 3 years. No seperation at all and there is lots of fl...

RE: Please...need advise...

Do you live near a Home Depot? They rent out a fogger that fogs a product that kills mold. It is realtively easy. The trouble with scrubbing with bleach is that it releases the mold spores into the air and perhaps your lungs. The fogger is supposed to reach into spots you could not possibly scrub. I...
