Re: What is Best thickness of laminate flooring for double w

Well, due to time restrictions on when this floor job gets done I had to make a decision today and went with a 12mm I found at Home Depot. It happen to be one on sale as a close-out. $1.39 a square foot. Name is: Pennslyvania Traditions Sycamore. Has a 25 year residential warranty. current link is: ...

Re: What is Best thickness of laminate flooring for double w

Thanks for the input to all! Ya, I think I may be overthinking it. I found some information that states even though 12mm is "thicker" it doesn't mean it's more "dense" so it can be just as flexible as 8mm. So I'm going to stop worrying about that now and just hope it works out in...

Re: What is Best thickness of laminate flooring for double w

I think I need to update my question: I have already re-done the entire subfloor with 23/32" plywood. And the floor is now fully level on both sides of this double wide home. BUT: I'm wondering if it's better to go with 8mm or 12mm on a doublewide floor which MAY in the future, have level issue...

What is Best thickness of laminate flooring for double wide

I am about to lay down new laminate flooring over my new 23/32" plywood subfloors. I first was going to choice a 12mm thickness, but may go with a 8 mm. I understand that a thicker mm is typically better because it is more solid, better sound resistance, feels more like wood etc... But then I t...

Re: what are Tie Down rods for: One purpose only or many?

Yes, I read this article before and it talks about using rods for high winds. But, I guess I'm confused what is called a "tie down" for high wind issues compared to the rods that get pushed under ground with a post support like a Abesco Tuf-1, which seems to be for earthquake issues only. ...

what are Tie Down rods for: One purpose only or many?

I've been curious if tie down rods used with foundation post\pier systems such as what ABESCO sells,(EZ-Tie) is strictly for "wind" issues only. In other words, are tie down rods just to help from having the home being lifted and damaged by high winds or do they play another role such as h...

Re: horizontal strips in walls are ????

DaveyB, Yes, I get what you mean. But I keep thinking about what's already been in the home. Such as a gas stove, washer and dryer, all of which are in a row against the outer wall. so if all that weight doesn't make the flooring bend at the frames edge, why would an extra 111 lbs of wall boards? Ex...

Re: horizontal strips in walls are ????

JD is right. They are OSB boards. Not Gypsum at all. I will probably have to add perimeter blocking. However, I weighed the OSB board and they are 37lbs each. There will be about 3 per room for the one wall side I'm nailing these to. So that brings up one final question, will these boards actually c...

Re: horizontal strips in walls are ????

Be more concise??? Did you see how I seperated each question for easy response to whichever you have information about? Also, the longer the post, the more info it contains to explain the needed knowledge. The short answers are the ones that require more follow up questions. But that's just me.... a...

Re: horizontal strips in walls are ????

Now that there are some replies to my questions, it's normal that new questions would arise from the responses as well as some confusion: 1) I have to correct what I said before. I'm not using "wallboard" or "sheetrock", I"m using 3/4" OSB gypsum board. 2) HouseMedic me...

horizontal strips in walls are ????

I have a 1969 Champion single wide mobile home. All that makes up the original walls are 1/8" panel boards with R-9 fiberglass batting, a thin sheet of plastic, then the aluminum siding of the outer wall. I am replacing the original 1/8" panel boards with 3/4" thick wallboards, then p...
