RE: Auto sensing light switches
I have used 2 sound activated switches for years. One at the beginning of the hallway turns on a table lamp. I can tap the wall at the far end of the hallway to turn it on. The other is hard-wired in the back shed and turns on the outdoor deck light and also the inside light. Coming home in the dark...

New Daylight Saving Time
Not a big deal but just so you are aware that some el. devices have already changed to standard time, a week early. It probably only applies if one were to schedule a VCR program to record. But it did catch the City of Winnipeg traffic lights when they were an hour late for the Monday morning rush h...

RE: tubular skylights
I was lucky my friend gave me 2 whse. light covers from his workplace upgrade. I used the turbine exhaust base to mount the covers and because they were ridged to disperse the light they also work to concentrate the light in reverse. I lined the tubes with al. foil tape and covered the sections with...

RE: Replaceing Water lines
Talking about the crimp rings I saw on This Old House the plumber did not use them. They installed PEX under-floor heating, plumbing and even a sprinkler system. It may be an old method but they seemed to use an expander that opened the ends and then the PEX collapsed back down over ridged metal mal...

RE: Home Depot and Lowes
I usually check out Home Hardware B4 the other 2 in Winnipeg.
Plus other smaller stores.
It's funny but I passed a house getting new siding this morning and the house wrap had Menard's brand name all over it.

Greg is right, but doing bit of framing work is worth it in the long run. I have even put in sliding patio doors, so really, anything is doable. Jim I hope Jim doesn't mind but here is the link to his door install on the old forum. And the things he ran into. http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/forums/...

RE: Heat bulb burned out - indicator led ?
I use a remote thermometer to tell me if my heat tape is cycling on and off. Maybe if you attach the sensor near the base of the socket you will be able to see the temp drop when the bulb burns out. I have the thermo line run up into the bathroom. For the heat tape I have a red night light in the po...

Clamp Thing
I need help in naming this "thing" so I can google it for more info. It is about 5' long and has a rod inside the shaft which opens and closes the tongs. Probably a special purpose tool for reaching up onto shelves to retrieve something. Grocers in small stores used to use a larger clamp t...
