Re: Metal Roof

Melissa,
Any issues with outside noise and that metal roof? I don't think mobile homes are insulated as well in the attic as stick homes, so is rain noise more noticeable? We have a 2001 Patriot SW with shingles and they won't last forever...

This is an easy one. Call a furnace guy. With all the things you've already checked he should find the problem in short order.

Re: Leaking water overflow drain

You haven't described where the pipe is located in the yard, but you might mention to management that if it's in a common area there certainly could be liability involved if the ground stays wet/muddy/unstable/frozen. That might generate some response to the problem.

This one's easy. Go portable. Best thing about this is, if your plumbing ever goes down in the future, you'll have something "to go on".. http://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Products-Luggable-Portable-Gallon/dp/B000FIAPXO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359156381&sr=8-1&keywords=portable+to...

Re: STEAMED UP WINDOWS

Replacement windows is your only real guarantee. There's cold air leaking in from the outside and warm humid air getting in between the windows from the inside, and it's really tough to seal those gaps effectively. You might try weather strip tape, but be careful it doesn't peel off the wood trim on...

Re: Vinyl planks

Your best bet for accurate information is a big box store - Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards...they will not only answer your questions, they'll have samples of all the possibilities!

Re: Window replacement

I've spent the last couple of weeks window shopping. You can get cheapo vinyl replacements from Window World for "$189 installed". You can get very good Pella double hung low-e windows for $128 (NOT installed) off the shelf at Lowes. And everything in between.
Get the good ones.

Re: Bathtub crisis...

1. Cozy up to your favorite grizzled old hometown hardware store guy and ask for suggestions (about the tub problem). 2. Call the Culligan man - water is what they do. 3. Check with a local university extension expert - they have opinions on everything. 4. Google FAQ from water heater manufacturers....

Fiberglass tub, I assume? Vinegar is your best bet - it works much better than Limeaway. We have very hard well water and I do the tub/shower about once every two weeks.

Ask some MH landlords about movers - that's how we found ours. We moved our 16X80 singlewide about 75 miles for $3000 after checking out several choices.

Re: Finally set up a transfer switch and got a generator.

We did the same thing when we installed solar panels a couple of years ago - they don't generate enough juice to run central a/c or the electric furnace, but will run two window units (5K in the bedroom and 8K in the living room) as well as the lights, the computer, the fridge and the freezer - and ...
