Re: Bye-Bye garden tub. Hello REAL shower!

Actually wanting two separate handles(hot/cold) rather than the integrated approach. The models at HD and Lowes went from $45....then jumped to $225 ... like there was nothing in between. Like from plastic to diamond encroached! I learned the hard way that a cheap plumbing fixture is a 'be back'.......

Re: Nifty new skirting option

I also used the metal roofing material. Anchored treated 4 x 6's over a bed of pea gravel. Attached the panels to the outside edge of the 4x6...and let the top float behind the old plastic trim piece to keep it from buckling from cold/heat. Finished off with some drainage gravel - and so far its hol...

Bye-Bye garden tub. Hello REAL shower!

After 8 years of having to wedge myself in the corner of the tiny little shower - I am ready to tear out the never-used-garden-tub-except-to-wash-dogs. I've searched the forums up and down and believe I have most of the bases covered. The unit is a 4 piece Sterling Accord shower: 36x60 pan, back wal...

Re: Vinyl skirting brands

For three sides, that method works perfectly. On my fourth side...well, frankly, the bozo who set this place was a bozo. They dug a wedge out of slanted terrain so that the wedge simply had less slope - but not any where near "flat and level". They set the house and then backfilled against...

Re: Vinyl skirting brands

Greg S I need to replace my vinyl skirting with steel and am quite interested in the wood frame you built. Is the wood frame attached to the underside of the house? ... or just "free standing" and staked into the ground?? I need to erect a fairly strong structure on the backside of my plac...

Re: Skirting/wood blocks

It sounds like the tops of the panels have been nailed/screwed down. Hence, as the place shifts, the panels appear to raise and lower as compared to the bottom track. When it shifts up you get the gap....and when it shifts down you get the distortion (bulging). If I understand the "methodology&...

Re: Remodel cover plate for shower/tub

JD - Well. I caved. I suppose somebody will want to revoke my "Man" card!! :) Bought a nice new fixture and tore a section of the wall out. And within 45 minutes I was on my way back to Home Depot to exchange that pretty fixture for one of those "Mobile Home" replacements. $29 an...

Re: infestation problem

There are pretty much too options: chemicals - or - chickens. I live way out in the country, so I opted for the chickens. Six of them - and there isn't a bug that doesn't get their attention. With the chickens, I got rid of the fleas, got fresh eggs on a daily basis, and also got poop everywhere. So...

Re: Hey all you drywall gurus out there....

Ah! The perils of drywall! Paper tape bubbles up when there isn't enough mud behind it when it is/was put down and/or the mud was too dry. The only way to patch it without removing the whole strip is to cut out the bubble. Bear in mind, the tape is doing nothing but providing a surface to hide the g...

Re: Remodel cover plate for shower/tub

I have searched the internet until my fingers are numb, and am now pretty much resigned to having to cut out the backside of the wall. In that, I want to make danged sure I don't have to do this again for years AND years...as in "till death do us part". :) I did consider replacing the whol...

Remodel cover plate for shower/tub

Need to replace the valves for a shower/tub. Of course, I don't want to cut a hole in the wall behind the shower, so I have looked at alternatives in accessing the valves. This particular shower uses a three hole design (hot, cold, tub spigot) but is mounted about 1.5" above the rim of the tub....

Re: Welding to frame?

Well, being 150baker supplied the necessary insight to fully kill my welding aspirations...:) and I'd have been kickin my own butt for years to come every time the unit came on ..... It does look like there is enough slack in the lines to move it a little - and also allow me to pivot the entire unit...

Re: What could be causing this?

I know this sounds odd....do you have/use a laser type printer?? Yes, the dust from the toner does get expelled out into the room when it is used. The particles are very light - and will stick to just about anything.

Welding to frame?

I have an odd situation with my AC compressor unit. It sits smack in the path of where I need to make a means for excess water to channeled away from the house. I was going to pour a new slab then have the local AC company move it the 7 feet and do up all the connections. Then I got their quote! YEE...

New roof: Time, Money, Skills

I've a double wide that is about 15 years old now. It has a skylight in the master bath I would like to get rid of, and there are three places in the facia that have just rotted through. The factory shingles are harder than a rock - or stiffer than road kill - or both. I am going to be taking 10 day...
