RE: Tile a shower?
Do a google search on "mobile home shower pan" and you'll get several companies that specialize in these things. I'm dreaming of my bathroom remodel, and have found several sources for a shower pan that'll fit in my 27x56" tub footprint. I believe JD said that the factory pan in a man...

RE: replacing an entire floor and some of the bottom plates
Please pardon this long post. **Mark, I will get this integrated with the pictures as I promised and send it to you, soon.** I just replaced 8' of the bottom plate (I called it rim joist) where a door leak had caused it to rot nearly thru. None of the studs in the area were still connected to the jo...

RE: New Washer and Dryer?
When I bought my frontloader set, I was laying to rest a 25-year old Kenmore that had everything I used and nothing I didn't, so it had a couple of bells and whistles, big capacity, nothing else. Having been a home appliance technician, I didn't expect the oldie to wash huge comforters, large ruge, ...

RE: New Washer and Dryer?
I miss my front loader, too. There are a couple of things that keep the washer from smelling moldy. Easiest is leaving the door open a bit when not in use. Another is to use a 1-pound box of baking soda with a hot water quick load about every 6 months. And *the biggie*, make sure you don't leave wet...

RE: Need pictures of redesign/remodels
I want that house!
If that's a mobile, it's got to have what the D&D folks call a "bag of holding", with more space inside than it takes up outside (LOL!).

Erron trying to access profile
I get the same error trying to access my profile that keeps cropping up lately with others. I also noted that one of you in moderator land can change a user name on an account. That would be so cool, 'cause I thought the signup was not asking fro my real name, not a user ID. Makes me look like I'm s...

One more roofing question...
JD, Is there more than one kind of hidden fastener roofing? In web-surfing for DIY material, the only one that seems to admit to being hidden fastener is the 5-V crimp stuff, which also requires the crimping tool. If there's a reason why you can't go into detail on a public forum (been there), I'm g...

RE: floor repair question
Please, do not do anything with the floor until you've found and fixed the water leaks that CAUSED the soft spots. ( I also have a 1970 mobile.) Every place there is a floor problem in my house, there was a roof, window, or plumbing leak that wasn't fixed before a prior owner put a layer of 3/8 plyw...

RE: Rainwater Collection .What are some ingenious uses for t
I was given estimates for drilling a well ranging from $13 - 15 thousand dollars! And even when they get the water, the iron has to be removed before it's usable. Seriously. I decided that I could harvest rainwater, build the system pay-as-you-go, and I have a source of trucked-in potable water uint...

RE: Need a serious capacity Storage Tank for solar hot water
Dave, Before you bury a hurricane shelter, be sure that the water table is low enough that the storm surge or other flooding doesn't cause it to float. I grew up in hurricane country, and the high water table is why houses don't have basements on the coast. The floating coffins in New Orleans also c...

RE: Anyone familiar with Ondura roofing?
JD, Thanks for suggesting the Google search. I usually do that, and slipped up; I probably didn't want to read the bad news. I guess I'll pass on the Ondura. They want a minimum 3 in 12 slope, and tho I intended to do a mild peak, I don't think I'll get there. BTW, after looking at pictures that cam...

RE: Anyone familiar with Ondura roofing?
I've worked with Hardipanel before too, also for skirting. I had a pair of the shears then, and didn't like the damage they left on the cut edge. Most of the time I won't have a second person, so I thought I'd do the skirting alone and save the family "work visits" for ripping out and repl...

RE: Anyone familiar with Ondura roofing?
The skirting plan calls for it to be protected by raised beds and curbs once all of the under-house work is done, so nothing bigger than a hand fork or trowel will get close. It looks much easier to handle than Hardipanel, my second choice.

Anyone familiar with Ondura roofing?
I've been looking at Ondura roofing, carried at Lowe's. It's made of fiber mesh impregnated with asphalt, two coats of paint, and sealed with melamine resin. It's corrugated, but this and its flexibility allows you to correct for an out-of-square roof (I snagged an installation manual). I thought I'...
