Trafficmaster Allure flooring after a couple of years

I thought I'd post my review of Trafficmaster Allure plank flooring, since occasionally people have some questions about it. I had this installed "professionally" in the late fall of 2008. I use the term "professionally" in quotes because the installer was a previously reputable ...

Rustoleum cabinet and countertop coatings

Has anyone tried these new coatings? What is your opinion? And most importantly, will the cabinet coating work with these gawdawful paper coated particleboard cabinets?

Plywood to replace bathroom subfloor

Well, my husband finally fixed the leaks in the tub plumbing, but we also noticed floor softening. Some investigation revealed that the leak is coming from the separate shower pan, and went from underneath the shower pan to underneath the sheet vinyl. Apparently, Fleetwood didn't run the she...

Re: MAJOR tub faucet leak

Actually, I had the best luck at a plumbing supply store when I redid a similar faucet. I sincerely hope you didn't have a leak UNDER the faucets as I did, which ruined my bathroom floor. It was under the tub enclosure, and went unnoticed until it pretty much dissolved a good part of the bathroom fl...

Re: A major mess!

Maybe a little more explanation is in order. The tub itself is one of those soaker tubs. It is an oval drop in style, the deck is a formica platform. It looks like a drop-in bathroom lavatory sink on steroids. There is no hot water heater behind the plumbing. There is a stall shower at the end of th...

A major mess!

I've had a dripping tub faucet for quite some time, and THOUGHT it was just dripping into the tub. Until I discovered that it is leaking from someplace inside the faucet, onto the tub decking, and from there through the broken caulk surrounding the tub, under the tub, and onto the floor. The reason ...

RE: Paint Brand

If I recall, it was $28 a gallon for the Duration line. The SW stores frequently do have sales and specials, this week, they have a 25 % off offer on Duration. You can also register for something called their Preferred Buyer program, sometimes there are discounts for that. All of their employees are...

RE: Paint Brand

I've used Behr, and the stuff seems to wash off. After that experience, I've used Sherwin Williams successfully, and haven't switched since.

I am in the same situation, in my kitchen there is a gap between the front wall and the side wall. Since this is the corner of the house, I filled the gap with expanding foam, let set for a day, shaved off and sanded the excess, and am applying metal corner bead using drywall screws. There has alway...

vinyl wall board painting techniques

Hi, all, This subject probably has been beaten to death, but I want to ask about various techniques I've heard concerning how to paint that lovely vinyl-papered wallboard. I live in the northeast. I realize the purpose of the batten strips is to cover shift gaps in the wallboard, much like the joint...

RE: Interior shutters as window treatments

Oops, meant to say the faux wood shutters, they are made of some sort of plastic. I was planning to use them to cover the windows for light and privacy, and be able to open them and close them, not just hang them outside the window frames (the way exterior decorative shutters are.)

Interior shutters as window treatments

Hi, all,

The work continues, and with the approach of new windows next weekend, the question is new window treatments.

I am considering interior faux wood shutters, and wonder if anyone here has them. How happy are you with them?

We are in the process of installing Allure Trafficmaster resilient vinyl plank flooring through my kitchen, dining nook, and utility room. The stuff is a recently introduced product at Home Depot, and the tiles stick to each other but not the floor itself, making it a floating floor, similar to a la...

RE: Chandelier

Thanks for the information, it is certainly food for thought. My house is a '95 Fleetwood Carriage Hill (doublewide) with what the manufacturer describes as cathedral ceilings (sloped ceilings.) There is a fan box in the living room area, directly opposite the dining area I am thinking of putting th...

Chandelier

I have always wanted a real cut-glass chandelier, not an acrylic replica, in my dining room. In the dining room we have a hanging ceiling fixture that came with the house. I realize that I will probably have to insert one of those fan-hanging rod affairs in through the hole in the ceiling, but how m...
