Is it a good idea to lay a plastic sheet on the ground under the trailer for a moisture barrier? Right now all that's there are the concrete runners and the dirt in between the runners.
Thanks -

Re: Special water heater for mobile home
I set the pan first and had to jockey the heater in on top of it. Like lugging a dead body, but as long as you don't puncture the pan you can dent it a little! As far as the PEX lines, just make sure the nipples line up appropriately where the lines come in - measure twice, cut once.

Re: Special water heater for mobile home
I just replaced my "closet" electric water heater with a stock one from Lowes. Other than doing a bit of cramming to get a drip pan under it, the project was a piece of cake.

Hey, I admire your resolve to do this job - we have the same kind of garden tub and I get the urge every now and then to do just what you're doing.
Can you post a few photos of the ongoing project? That "picture - thousand words" thing.
Thanks!

Try a plumbing supply place - they always have a much better selection than the big box stores. If you're really adventurous you could try a used fixture place - a plumbing supply house should be able to suggest a couple.

Our 2001 Patriot has carpet in the master closet, with linoleum in the water heater portion, which is behind a panel in the wall in the master closet.

If you don't want to lay out money to BUY a crimper, try some local RENTAL places - you'll probably find just what you need at 1/10th the cost.

Re: Dirt Pad Material
Looks like you've got clay. We moved our 16 X 80 singlewide onto a VERY flat piece of ground that is also clay, with more clay underneath. We ran our reinforced concrete runners side to side (instead of lengthwise) on 10' centers. That allows for settling under any part of the trailer without the ru...

Re: Deck post suggestion (to bury or not to bury...)
If you go to the Post Office and request a "Change of Address Kit", it comes with a Lowes coupon for 10% off your next purchase - no matter how big or small the purchase is. Best part - although you turn in the coupon when you buy, you can go back to the Post Office for more "Change o...

Re: Insulating the Attic
What's the best way to see what I have in there now? Is there any potential problem with "filling her up" with insulation as far as covering something up (soffit ventilation, for instance)? I'm blowing in garage insulation and figured since the equipment will be here anyway....

Re: changing propane to electric furnace
Our 10-year old singlewide is all electric, and we're in the process of adding a direct vent propane heater in the large living area to supplement the electric. Electric heat is at minimum 3 times more expensive to use than propane. We investigated various size tanks to install, and the smaller the ...

Insulating the Attic
Can I blow more insulation into the attic in my 10-year old single wide? I don't even know what's up there, but what's the downside to drilling holes in either end of the trailer and filling the attic with as much blow-in as I can get in there?
Just curious....

Re: northeast winter freeze prevention
I just installed Rapid Wall insulated skirting on our 16 X 80, and we have the trailer set 48" off the ground (it's high). I have the 18' of water pipe wrapped with heat tape and foam, so I don't expect any freezing. I can't imagine the heat tape using an exorbitant amount of electricity, and i...
