Re: Mobile home leveling questions..

There is a mobile home repair guide that is available through the store (I think!) that provides TONS of good advice and workable solutions. One of those is how to re-level that massive beast with a water level - either home made or store bought. So...while you do have the concrete blocks under the ...

Re: plumbing is a leaky roller coaster!

That is the 'philosophy' I went with. Less is better! the only weird thing I came across was during my trip to big box blue who told me they don't keep stock on any ABS fittings below 4". So I went to orange big box and was told that they didn't stock the plumbing stuff for mobile homes. Unbekn...

plumbing is a leaky roller coaster!

Just happened to be finishing up an access door for my new skirting install....and heard water dripping. Ugh! (that's not what I said - but hey...) The drainage line from the kitchen sink goes through the P-trap then down through the floor. From there, a hard elbow to run parallel to the joists. It ...

Re: A message to the MH builders out there

...and it's done. I ended up sandwiching a 2x3 with a 1/4" spacer into the closest stud. Thankfully i had a 8" bit extender for driving in some extra long deck screws! Then i screwed the box to the 2x3. The wiring was a bit tight - but it's done and i ain't gonna do it again! :)

Re: A message to the MH builders out there

I found a piece designed (RACO) for this exact predicament - but the big boxes don't carry it in stock. Gotta special order - and buy 10! So, yes, that's exactly what i am trying to do. I went into town and picked up one of those mega-jumbo wall plates so hopefully it will cover up any mess - and fi...

A message to the MH builders out there

ATTENTION MOBILE HOME BUILDERS! STOP IT! Stop it right now! When ya'll hire young punks who don't even know the right end of a screw driver - you screw all of us buyers. You cheap solution only furthers the reputation of mobile junk. I cannot tell you the goofy, shabby, shoddy, stupid construction '...

Re: installing wired speakers for surround, questions?

Are your rear speakers wall mount? I ran my wires down, then across to the outer wall, up through the floor.....and then up the wall to each speaker. I did put the wire in copper tubing so that it is hidden and the end result is a kinda modern looking wire hide. The bottom line: there are no good or...

Re: Wheres a good place to order windows from?

Big Orange has the stock sizes of American Craftsmen - but they can special order pretty much any size you want. I went to the store, sat down with a window guy...and was done in less than 30 minutes. They called about a week/10 days later and my windows were there for pickup. I got windows with the...

Re: Wheres a good place to order windows from?

I replaced all of my windows with American Craftsmen (subdivision of Andersen) from big orange. All of them have done just fine - with only one needing replacement. The glass in one half of the window has got some weirdo strange marks/handprints in it that have become more obvious over the years. I ...

I'm not sure what your question is. Do you want to move the register? Modify the register?

Re: What Could be Causing this Staining on Ceiling?

I have a similar issue at the ceiling where a trim board covers the marriage seam. There is zero moisture - so i can only assume it is dirty air being pulled in when the AC runs.

Re: Flooring suggestions - dog/scratch resistant

I put down the laminate stuff in one room that I made into an "office". It has held up well to the dogs (3 black labs) - but (there is always a but! ) Pretty much all I had read said to run the planks towards the light (window). So i did. BIG mistake! Because the floor joists run the same ...

Re: Should windows have gaps like this??

New home??? With junky work like this??? Those windows may not leak to the inside of the house - but they WILL leak behind that vinyl siding. Sooner or later - you are gonna end up with one heck of a mess - and a bill to fix it! Push it all back to the dealer - and most probably in this case, the ma...

Re: windows sweating in the winter

If you think the sweat from those window3s is bad - you should see the heat escaping out those single pane windows. My place had the standard junk single pane windows. I replaced all of them via big Orange. They carry a brand that allows custom measurements - and no extra charge! All told, I believe...

Re: How important are OUTRIGGERS on a manufactured home?

I would let miss dealer know she is full of it. The outriggers provide critical support to outside walls. Yes, there are floor joist that span from one side to the other (across the main I-beams) - but the outriggers serve to stabilize all of that. make 'em fix it, replace it - or take it back. doin...
