Re: Installing exhaust fan under mobile home.

Thanks for the update, and I hope you get well soon! Projects are what projects are, and until completed they are still projects, so don't get disheartened. I have a stack of lattice sheeting stacked at the end of the driveway that has been there for almost a month. Part of the job is done, but ther...

Re: horizontal strips in walls are ????

I am part way through completing the lattice screening around my home, so the following is relevant to your project. The screening comprises of 4' x 8' plastic sheets of 1" x 1" lattice, about 1/8" thick. I found that, if installed vertically and screwed in top and bottom only, they d...

If it is marked for 2 x 30amp breakers, then it will require 2 available 30amp breakers at the main box and, if you don't already have it, cabling for the same.

Just deleted the rest of my reply, sorry. I'd forgotten about the site policy on this one!

Re: sill plate/board

Hi! When you think of wood rot, think of the Titanic! Rot is like an iceberg, you only see the top part of it, and the rest is hidden under water (or paint, in your case). I would certainly approach this from the point of view of everything is rotted, and anything that isn't is a bonus. If water has...

Re: Advice on Air/Heating Duct system.

The first clue is that the furnace is only 3 years old, and does heat, but it's cold within 10 minutes of it shutting off. While I'm no HVAC expert, that is a very short time, and would cause the unit to cycle needlessly which increases the running costs and the wear on the unit. I think you need to...

Re: Dealing with aging parents..

Hi Audie, I believe I understand your problem, I'm a bit of a hoarder myself but I do occasionally have a fit and throw things out! Here's a couple of suggestions you might want to try. First off, have a word with the local paramedics, and arrange to borrow a gurney for an hour or so. Take it to the...

Re: Safe method of work on sub-floor?

Another way of clearing off the excess glue without too much elbow grease involved: Use a hand held circular saw, set to the width of the joist. Lay the saw horizontal so the blade is across the top of the joist, and just skim it along the top surface, taking off all the glue. Safety goggles are a m...

Re: Home Re-Leveling

Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer: The spirit level was used to level across the width of the home, not down the length of it, and to locate the crests and dips. A 1/8" error in the level would only result in a max of a 3/16" error across the 16' width of a singlewide (which I have)....

Re: Home Re-Leveling

I have just had a crew come in and re-level my home. I was considering doing this myself, but decided to leave it to the experts and see how they handled it. Boy, was I impressed! The company I used is local to me, and level over 500 homes each year according to their website. I left them a message ...

Thanks ColoradoGirl42, but I'm simply posting stuff that I learned from others! Good point on the LEDs Greg, they are starting to look pretty reasonable, and with the latest color mixes available, they could be a good substitute. One thing I haven't seen yet is a CFL or LED bulb to replace...

Don't forget that places like HD and Lowes will rent power tools like miter saws, routers, etc for a reasonable fee - don't buy a cheap one, rent a quality one and return it quickly to keep the rent down! :)

Just to add fuel to the fire, in Arizona, a MH is not classed as a "property" but as a vehicle, and is issued with a vehicle title by AZDOT. Since it is "parked" on private property, no registration is required! One solution to the problem may be that, instead of registering it a...

Re: Ditra - anybody ever use in Mobile Home?

As Greg mentioned, the shifting and settling of the home could cause a lot of problems for a tiled surface. The rigidity of the tiled wall would not allow it to settle with the rest of the home, and even ΒΌ" of movement could start tearing the wall away from the floor or from another wall. One s...
