Re: Ceiling insulation question

It appears that there are no soffit vents. Just ridge and gable. I guess I could try to add what I could , a few inches anyway. At least fill in the gaps.

Re: Ceiling insulation question

No, the home has a flat 7.5 foot ceiling through out the house. I can see from the front gable vent to the back gable vent.

Ceiling insulation question

Hi everybody.... I have a ceiling/attic insulation question. My vacation home is in PA, so it does get cold. I have shingled roof with ridge vent and 2 large gable opening vents. The ceiling has R19 with a 4/12 roof. I was thinking of blowing in added fiberglass to fill gaps and add up to R25. My qu...

Re: Insulation question (encapsulated)

Thanks Greg.... yes, it's confusing! I did find out that one side of the encapsulated insulation has small holes. The other side is solid. (The solid side is the side with the writing). That side functions as the vapor barrier and goes against the heated surface/side. It also has the staple flanges....

Insulation question (encapsulated)

I have a few questions about the plastic encapsulated insulation. I'm using the 6" fiberglass for the floors and I'm wondering with side is the "vapor barrier"? There is a white side with writing and it has the "vapor barrier circular arrow" and then the other side with is j...

How to fasten under belly material?

Hey all: (14 x 70 single wide) I have relocated all the plumbing/Pex to above the floor and reinsulated between all the 2 X 6s with new insulation. The heat ducts have been covered sufficiently too. Insulation has been supported with rigid wire supports, poly twine and wire . It is not coming down s...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Hey Dale....thanks for the additional clarification. Yea I know, I'm a thinker. Medical professional and I assess everything! I really appreciate everyone's experience on here! I am moving all water lines ABOVE the floor with PEX too. Just easier to keep warm, easier to get to and easier over all. T...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Yea....don't want a soaked sponge!! I'm confused...I thought that the belly wrap was supposed to be airtight, so that would mean not breathable. What is the best bottom material that IS breathable? I'm thinking it may be best to add unfaced and then then use the belly material as a the vapor barrier...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Insulation again! Would it be best to put "unfaced"/no vapor barrier R19 in the floor of this home or "faced"? The reason I ask is that if you put the bottom board/poly material on the bottom, you now have essentially (2) vapor barriers. The paper against the floor and the poly b...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Thanks all....I appreciate all the good information. I will keep you posted on the progress after the weather breaks. BTW.....what would be a reasonable labor charge to remove and install insulation, bottom cover and haul away the trash? Also, to re-plumb this 1 bath home. (With PEX) Bath and kitche...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Any ideas on the heater ducts and how I should insulate? What about tearing out and just using flex. I worry about the vulnerability of hanging flex duct under the home. It would be below the insulation blanket. Should I just insulate the 2 sides and bottom of the existing duct and call it a day? Todd

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, this home is in north central PA, so it does get cold. It was 8 below when I was winterizing 2 weeks ago! brrrr I will think about insulating the skirting too!! I want to bring the water up above the floor, mainly because if I insulate between the floor joists, there wi...

Insulation/plumbing questions

Hi everybody....I'm glad to be part of this group!! Thanks to the moderators that helped me with the registration. I recently bought a 79 14 X 70 back in my home state of Pennsylvania. The home is a shingled roof and lap siding, skirted and about 3 feet above ground overall. I consider it to be a hi...
