RE: Frostline Piers

Tim, Since you are on your own land it may make sense to do frost line footers. I would check it to see how far off it is before making any decisions. if it has not shifted too much, try releveling it and keep an eye on it. Greg

RE: 20x56 doublewide: massive 'vibration'

Hi & welcome to the family. You did not say how long the home has been there, and if this has been a problem from the start. If that is the case I would suspect that the home was not properly set up and or leveled. Mark (the owner of this site) has a book that is a bible to mobile home owners th...

RE: Doors not shutting anymore?

Dave, Wait a few days before you do anything. this is the time of year when frost heave does weird things, the ground could be thawing from the sun in some spots and still be frozen in others. this is just one of those things that we have to deal with. Greg

The other problem could be plugged or partaly plugged holes under the rim. the will plug up over time with rust and lime. make sure they are open, you can open them with a coat hanger if you need to. Greg

RE: Minor/Major plumbing issues

Jaie, As Yanita said, the plumbing should be above the belly insulation just under the floor. As strang as it may sound, all the snow you get MAY have helped prevent freezeups by blocking the cold from getting under the home. As for the electricity, just run a cord over to the nuke plant, they won't...

RE: How did you find this great site

Well, I was trying to figure out when it was that I found this place. As near as I can figure out it must have been around 1999. I tried searching the newspaper's archives for the artical and came up empty. I think it was at least 4 forum styles ago (that narrows it right down) and it seems like it ...

RE: doorway question

To resize a door you will need to open up the wall since you need to add new door frames (2x4 or 2x6) depending on the out side wall thickness. You will want at least a double top header since that carries the weight of the roof and any snow load you may have. The procedure is about the same as a st...

RE: Bowed wall panelling

Mark's book does go into detail on how to correctly re level your home, it IS a time consuming job, but it is the only way to do it right. You may have two rooms level, but they could be 1/2" different in height. that is why you have to level the frame as one unit, since the home is built from ...

RE: Roof coating

Amy, The Coolcoat white has a better rating than the basic silver coating. It requires a little more prep work, but it is supposed to be a better coating. I plan on using it on ours this spring. Perhaps JD will add to this, he is our roof expert. Greg

You may want to run the furnace when it starts getting below 0, just to keep the pipes warm. We use a Monitor kerosene heater that is easily able to keep the place warm, but we de run into water freeze up if the furnace is off. The other option is to run the lines above the floor. Greg
