RE: New Mobile Suggestions
I don't know if it is a possible upgrade, but from working on these first three rehabs, I wonder if all drip channels could be outlawed, and small rain gutters required instead lol. If not gutters, if they offer diverters over windows and doors (small metal overhangs, they send the water out further...

RE: slate / stone floors
there are some really good looking sheet products that come in stone patterns, and the higher end grades can be put down free floating except for high traffic areas. I have even seen ones that have the "stones" raised up from the surface compared to the "grout". the flooring is w...

I really like the look of the preassembled vanity sink combos I have seen at the home improvement stores, but I have yet to use one. If the prices I have seen are for both the vanity and the sink they were decent. in a bigger sink, less splashing, right? the idea that the vanities are already preass...

RE: Is the Rustique vinyl skirting kit anygood?
I made my own corner pieces out of the corner piece for regular house siding. It was 12 feet long, and I needed less than 3 feet a corner. It has about 3/4 of an inch deep channel on each side of the corner, I ran the end of the skirting into it. I back cut some of the vinyl so that it could move up...

for leaks, if you can see the water meter readout, turn off all taps, washing machine, dishwasher etc, make sure the toilet is not running from being flushed, and go out and see if the meter is still showing water being used (numbers increasing). if so, then maybe a leak, or maybe a bad meter? if no...

are you worried about high winds? if so, isn't the area to look at the tie downs and the piers? (underneath the home)
if it is up grading the appearance and insulation, maybe re-siding the home? BB

remember... aluminum metal has a high recycle price right now, and you need to decide who is going to get to do the recycling, so no misunderstandings, and you will need to secure the material as it comes off the home, or "strangers" will take it away for you in the middle of the night....BB

RE: Your recommendation for paint
I cleaned up some vinyl skirting for reuse. I had to soak it in detergent and tsp, hand scrub, and then power wash. I was fighting especially bad red clay stains. The skirting was not installed, and I was able to lay it on the driveway. it looked very, very good, and I have been able to use it for s...

Hi Mike, if the product was just boric acid, not likely to be a problem, best answer, having the container with you, call poison control, and talk with them. or better yet, call the phone number of the manufacturer. they will refer to a safety bulletin called a MSDS sheet (material safety data sheet...

window AC units
Is there a way to install window AC units that makes it more difficult for anyone to steal them? Or any advice on installing window AC units "the best way"? lol Decent park, but this is a rehab unit I am not at at night or on the weekends. we got record high temps early this summer in OH! ...

repair or replace ceiling exhaust fan
Happy Holiday everyone! my next interior repair will be to "fix" a bathroom exhaust fan that is in the ceiling. is the best way to take it down, and take the unit to the store to get them to help me spec a replacement, or are they pretty standard? do I need a whole fan, or can you just rep...

easy answer??... put up one of those pretty hanging lights with the chain wrapped in a cord that hang off of a hook. and perhaps get one of those ~$25 tall skinny column fans that take up little floor space, and oscillate. some of the fans even come with a remote control.... of course, my hanging la...

Harbor freight has a pry tool that fits into MH staples, it is a chisel at one end, and a tool that looks like a split hammer head on the other end. (if you can picture an upside down goats hoof shape that is what is looks like) it works great at getting the staples out... I really feel a lot of sym...

foam board for belly repair
I have spoken to folks in the park that have used foam board instead of belly wrap to do repair work on mobile homes. I have to close up middle section on a mobile home, no insulation or belly wrap left. I was considering stapling insulation to underside of floor, then put the foam board up, attache...

RE: Closet Doors
this may sound strange, but I wondered if you could do curtains instead of a door? The doors function to hide stuff from sight, and keep the sunlight from fading your clothes. curtains can do the same thing. if you get metal pipe and suppport it in the middle while attaching at each end, it should n...
