Re: Ceiling

It's hard to tell how "deep" that texture is from the picture but if it isn't that thick I would second Greg's choice of skim coating. It would be a lot easier and a lot less messy. Lots of articles out there on how to do it but basically you mix up some drywall mud really soupy and use a ...

Re: How would you fix this? Subfloor/Wall

Like Greg said different ways work in different situations. First, you said it's still wet. Where is this water or moisture coming from? Get some fans in there or a dehumidifier and try to get everything dried out. Then try to treat the mold. These would be my first steps and will give you a better ...

Those are nice. I found an old wheel barrow for the wife and she filled it with dirt and plated some flowers in it.

Re: CPVC PIPE

Pex is great stuff. And it's fairly cheap. If you're going to be working a lot with it then make the investment into the pex crimper. You could use sharkbite fittings but they are expensive and add up quick.

Re: Skirting Vents?

There are a couple issues "worth discussing" as that article says. The problem with that article is that it assumes you can get a perfect seal and keep out all moisture and stop all air flow, that's impossible. So now you're left with a couple options. Either seal it up the best you can an...

Re: HELP!! Water in Floor Insulation

All- First and foremost, thank you so much for all the advice I am getting here. I cant tell you how much I appreciate it! I will just suck it up and remove all the insulation, and replace. Unfortunately for you all, I am stumped on a few issues and have more questions. 1. for a newbie, what would ...

Re: Pulling up peel and stick tiles

Hope you don't mind me asking in this thread, but is that circular saw what you used to cut so close to the wall? If not what did you use to get such a good close cut? No the circular saw was just used for the straight cuts. For the cuts by the wall I just used my sawzall. It works pretty good but ...

Re: Skirting Vents?

The subject of venting has to take a lot of different things into consideration, it's almost a science. Things like location, temperature, humidity, etc all have to be taken into account to make an accurate decision. Also if you live in the areas a lot of us do where there is a hot season and a cold...

Re: Pulling up peel and stick tiles

Here's some progress pics. Should have most of the sheathing down tonight. Still have to fix some plumbing in one of the bathrooms before we can totally finish the sheathing. The previous owner used the shower without the drain hooked up! The pipe was under it but the part that screws into the drain...

Re: Pulling up peel and stick tiles

For the damaged areas we cut out we used 3/4" plywood. Then we used 7/16" OSB to overlay everything. The main reason for this was it was almost free. I know a guy that owns a roofing company and he has a bunch left over from jobs and sold it to me for very little. This will add a little st...

Re: Pulling up peel and stick tiles

Thanks guys. I ended up pulling up all the tiles and then used a scrapper to get any bigger chunks off the glue. Then I used kilzs primer over the whole thing. I did a little test section and it worked pretty good so did the whole thing. Then we could walk on it without sticking to the floor! Cut ou...

Re: PVC trim around exterior windows

You can do either if you are using the pvc boards. Personally I would do the cuts how Greg did them where they overlap. It's easier and a little more forgiving then getting a perfect 45 angle. Hard to get perfect miters. With PVC you don't have to wrap them like Greg did. If you do end up wrapping t...

Re: New guy,odd roof shape with broken bow frames.

Let me add some suggestions if you do go with a wood truss type roof. In your picture of the homemade trusses it has no bottom chord. The bottom chord keeps the walls from spreading apart, this is especially important in mobile homes. As the weight from the roof pushes down on the walls they will sp...

Re: Replace Window With Door

The ONLY time I have ever heard of not being able to get a home loan on a mobile home or stick built home was when there was work done without permits or not up to code and found during the inspection.
