Re: I think I saw it move...

Hi, Here in the south Greg, it is still not uncommon for the blocks to be set on the ground without pads. I would still find out what code is for your area. I would certainly remove the dirt that is building up againt the side of the skirting. I would also build a retaining wall out of a substantial...

Re: FYI- heat ducts

Thanks Curly for sharing your info. Many of us here know that information but there are many that do not. Use the foil back tape, (as Curly mentioned) if you use duct tape it will rot within the year. I also had to secure the sheet vinyl to the floor around the vent openings...in this home seems the...

Re: Hot Water / Cold Water (Frozen Pipe Question)

Sealing under your home with plastic is not a real good idea. It can condensate and trap the moisture under the plastic against your insulation. We always recommend the belly material or if you can not afford that and want a cheap fix you can use tyvex or another similar material. Keep in mind thoug...

Re: Framing / Trimming Windows

We made it real simple when we trimmed out ours in the old single wide....used a dato blade set to the correct depth, made the groove all the way, no marking no fussing wala...done!

Re: Bathroom Remodel

Before or as you are doing your new layout take notice of where your outlets and switches are. There are codes for this. Also make sure you can get the tub down the hall, around corners etc to get into master bath.

Re: Moulding and Trim

He uses the chisel to cut the batten while it is still in place. That way you do not have to remove the batten, risk breaking it and then reinstalling.

Re: Top Load Washer vs. Front Load

Hi, I like my top loaders. I have never had a problem with my machines. I have a great tendency to forget to put a towel in and with a top loader I can open the machine and add it. I seldom have an off balanced load and it does not shake, rattle and roll out of place. I prefer the simpler machines. ...

Re: a clogged sewer line or frozen sewer line and how do I fix

Hi,

Do you have a septic tank or city sewage? During the cold weather have you been leaving any faucets running during the night? Has anyone checked the vent to make sure that it is not plugged, if you are in a snowy area your vent could be cover by snow therefore not allowing air in...

Re: kitchen counter tops

Hi, Look under the cabinets you should see some screws that go up into a ledger board into the cabinets. The problem we ran into was that our counter top had also been glued to the ledger board. If you have a back splash already that may very well be glued as well, hence removal creates smone wall d...

Re: Moulding and Trim

That's what we have done pretty much through out the house, made our own. As for the batten strips Hubby uses a chisel (sharp one) and cuts off the section of batten, then installs the crown and base moulding. Good luck, I advise buying some extra sticks of crown just to learn how to cut crown. Ther...

Re: potential for pipe freeze-help!

If your skirting vents have the capability of closing I would do so to further reduce any cold winds. Do not leave your water running, it could possibly freeze your sewer line and then you have even further troubles.

Happy New Year,

Re: Front door weatherstripping

Hi, Weather stripping comes in rolls, various widths and thickness. The only tools you will need is a razor knife or pair of scissors to cut the neccesary length. The striker plate is the thing that the lock slides into on the door jamb. Just thought I would clear this up as you said you have no ide...

Re: Entering the underbelly

Hi, I don't know the area in which you live but I don't think I would just insulate the skirting in lieu of under the home. Insulating under the floor helps the heat ducts stay warm and then warming your floor. Also that same insulation prevents freezing pipes, or lessens the chance I should say. I ...
