Re: New With Questions

The newer you can afford the better. They will also have higher ceilings. It's best to try and find one from a family or person who needs to get rid of it. It it's inherited the new owners will have to continue to pay the lot rent and in a year will lose thousands of dollars. Buying from the mobile ...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

Is back stabbing outlets bad? When I changed mine, there were a few that were done that way. When I installed the new ones, I back stabbed them the same way. It was mainly when outlets were daisy chained together. The general consensus is yes, here's a link to some replies. http://boards.straightdo...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

replacing EVERY outlet/switch is only a partial solution to an underlying problem: the wiring in the entire house I won't replace the entire house wiring any time soon or until I need to. I'm sure there are other mobile homes in much worse electrical shape than mine that are just fine. So why bothe...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

At the last place I bought I just went through and replaced every outlet. Cheap, though tedious, peace of mind. UmpJJ Yeah it's worth it and not expensive. I already know two outlets near each other had problems, one had the top part out because of past spider egg problems and the other because it ...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

This is from a post on another forum from 2006, but: The National Electrical Code, in article 210.21 (B) 1, 2, and 3, describes the requirements of single and multiple receptacles on a circuit. The use of multiple 15 amp receptacles on a 20 amp circuit is permitted. A duplex receptacle is considere...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

T If one outlet was backstabbed they most likely all are. Outlets are cheap and now that you know how to do them I would replace them all and take a look at the wiring. Everything may look great on the outside and may pass those little testers but who knows what it looks like behind the cover. . Ye...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

The only outlet tester that is out there just checks to see if you have the ground and the hot and neutral wires in the right places. Ground to Green, White to silver (Neutral) and Black to black (Hot) It will not tell you if there is something that is bad unless it is not working at all. Ron I jus...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

Good news, I have copper wire. The problem was because there was corrosion because it was overheated at some point because of the backstabbed terminal. The one I put in has the wires screwed now. I hate backstabbing outlets. I'm not sure how that passes UL listing and code but it does somehow. I've...

Re: New With Questions

Try to get at least a house built after 1980 before them some electrical systems may be aluminum instead of copper. I think the year it stopped was 76 but I'm not sure.

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

I would still have a licensed electrician check out your place. If you have aluminum wire in the home you might have had a bad wire somewhere and it is just a coincidence that it came back on after you changed the outlet. Did you see a problem with the outlet that you changed? Electric is nothing t...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

Problem 2: Called the motor club the next day. When they got there I told him about it either being the starter or a negative cable loose. He wiggled it, as did I previously and it started right up. Drove to Walmart (where I bought it) and they tightened it up for me. You knew that the problem was ...

Re: I fixed me electrical problem...so happy now.

I would still have it checked. It bothers me that half of the home is on ONE breaker. I could see 1/4 or even half of the OUTLETS on one breaker, the lights on 2 more. It looks to me like someone has done some not so fancy rewiring. Greg Did that mean it's one one breaker? I don't know about that s...
