What color are YOUR cabinets?

Just wondering, I'm looking for some ideas...
If anyone has a tip for finding affordable cabinet doors I would really appreciate that as well!

Finally Moved In!

We're taking down the mid-wall border in the living room 1st, then painting. I peeked under a batten strip and I only have a teeny tiny space between wallboards- so if I decide to mud it should be short and sweet. Although I found this great seam tape that I'm going to try out first, no drying time!...

Little Confused about Skim Coating

One website says to use straight putty all over the wall...
Then I see another that uses joint compound that has been watered down...
Can someone PLEASE give me a tutorial on how to do this?
Which products I should use?
How many coats?
How thin or thick or product?
Argh. :?:

So do I just slap it on thickly?

After reading about removing batten strips and not removing them, I'm going out of my mind. We just bought a 2006 model with those lovely wallboards  Can I just slap some joint compound over the walls (cleaned and preped) in between the strips to get a drywall texture while leaving the strips...

RE: Spray Foam for Batten Gaps?

thanks for the replies, we have vaulted ceilings and so many strips, I've been looking through some posts and am thinking about spackling over the wall board with the strips in tact, instead of taping and mudding, would this make the walls too heavy?

Do they make flatter batten strips?

If I don't go the mud, tape, caulk, etc.. way, I'd be perfectly happy with some thinner batten strips that don't stick out as much.
Is this a possibility?

Spray Foam for Batten Gaps?

Could I use this instead of mud or caulk?
I was looking at the website and it looks like it would do the job well.
