Re: Tub Drain Broke Off

was it just the drain that broke?

Re: I need advice on difficult flooring

thats kind of what I was saying. the problem is you pretty much have to lift the wall to deal with the floor. using little wedges to lift the wall really limits the length of board you can put down. my temp wall solution will damamge some ceilings. then lets not forget about all the electrical and p...

Re: I need advice on difficult flooring

I started doing this on the MH I have pretty much given up on. I just kept finding more mold the deeper I dug. What I started doing was to put up a temporary wall, forcing the ceiling up a hair. I was then planning replace the outer wall, or at least the footer. I had already started replacing the f...

Re: Laminate flooring question

I believe they make special laminate blades. I picked one up for my circular saw when redoing a kitchen. Honestly, there is nothing the ticks me off more than wrecking a bunch of materials because I was too cheap to get the correct tool for the job. I'm a tighwad, so its happened more than once, and...

Re: what do you do with a MH too far gone?

well, the one I currently have, is in the perfect spot for fire practice, but Its also right were I'd have a use for the joists, beams and whatever. I'm guessing fire practice wouldn't heat the beams too bad, but I'd loose the floor joists. be a shame to waste 25+ good 12' 2x6s The one I may try to ...

what do you do with a MH too far gone?

I am curious what some of you have done with a trailer that is just beyond saving. The one that I have been messing with off and on is right at the virge of being not worth it. It certainly would not be worth it to pay someone to fix it. I have also been researching some tax forclosed property to bu...

Re: Nuclear vs. Solar vs Wind. Who is mightier?

even if you have great wind and solar power generation, you'll need controleably power sources (such and nuclear or hydro-carbons) or some truely mosterous and dangerous batteries. I remeber seeing a TV show on the british power grid controlers on how they had to be prepared for a massive spike in p...

Re: Hardwood floors in MH

Never delt with hardwood floors in a MH, but have in my old house. as you put down plwood instead of the often OEM particle board, I see no problem with actual HW flooring. The flooring nails might have had a hard time getting a secure hold in particle board. If its was stil the particle board, I'd ...

Re: no sheathing????????

Thats the way mine is. That is why I am planning on taking down the vinyl and putting up T111 plywood siding.

I am also planning on replacing the batting as the current stuff has not done well with only cracked vinyl to protect it

Re: Older Home Smells Musty :( HELP!

don't take this the wrong way, but seeing that you mentioned a 55+ comunity; the sense of smell is generally the first sense to go as we age. could be the smell was always there and just became more pronounced when the humidity got high. any depression can hold water in the form of a puddle if the s...

Re: roofover/addition questions/thoughts

could you just build the addition slightly lower, kind of like a split level, to keep the new roof continuous with the original? I also agree doing the addition off of 1 end might be the better solution. that will also be handy if you ever want to take out the mobile portion and keep the adition. I'...

Re: Adding a door ???

one difference between stick and mobile is that the roof that it has to hold up is much lighterand the top board is pretty much nothing. That means you'll probably want to put up a temporary load wall before you start to cut, and not worry so much about the the header boards that span the opening so...

Re: Leak Around Sliding Glass Door?

on my mobile home, they built the fllor first, then installed the caropeting, then stuck the walls on top of the carpeting. The carpeting would wick in moisture that came throught the siding. it might be coming from the side of the door opening and just wicking the moisture everywere else.
