Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.

Ok thanks anyway guys. Now that I'm having so much difficulty finding boxes to fit (at a reasonable price), I'm starting to seriously consider the possibility of making the existing wall thicker (with furring strips and additional drywall) so that I can build the new wall that will allow me to use n...

Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.

It's a wall separates the LR & kitchen. I want a matching wall on the other side. I typed 2x3 but my phone's auto correct changed it and I didn't notice until I saw that you said I should use 2x3 studs. I had an opening in the existing wall because I was installing connected smoke alarm. While I...

Re: 2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.

Thanks for the reply. As far as "old work" goes, one of the walls will be new as I'm putting one in but it'll be directly across from an existing one.

I was going to build it with 2x2s to match it.

2xw studded walls. Multi-gang elec boxes.

My interior walls are 2x2 studded with 1/2 drywall. I wanted to do some wiring which will include putting 3 switches at one location and 4 at another location. But I'm having difficulty finding shallow boxes that aren't single gang. How have you dealt with this? Edit: I misspoke. They're 2x3. I meas...

Re: Crown Moulding Questions.....

Hi Ponch. Thanks for the response. The space above most (if not all) the windows (and the exterior doors) is about 10 inches or so--should be more than enough for casing and crown. The only places of conflict are the interior doors -- especially by the bathroom/front bedroom. The pic I posted above ...

Crown Moulding Questions.....

I'm wanting to spruce up the place--I've got a 14x70. The previous owners had put up these flimsy pieces of wood at the tops and bottoms of all the walls. It looks really bad. I was planning to do crown moulding throughout. But..... 1) The space above the bedroom/bathroom door frames is only about a...

Repair Skirting around "penetrations"

At the locations where "things" penetrate the skirting (such as the freon pipe leading to/from the AC condenser and the related electrical connection), someone made huge cuts in the skirting. I understand WHY they had to cut it, but the way in which they cut it looks really bad and allows ...

Re: Frozen Water Line....... VENT

I talked to him after posting this. He plugged it into an outlet near the pipe -- but he didn't check to see if it was working. I told him that we know the one under my MBR works because he used it to plugin his work light when he and his friend put up my insulation. That outlet is protected by the ...

Re: Frozen Water Line....... VENT

Yeah I know what you mean. I deal with computers and used to do a lot of the PC troubleshooting in the office. I don't know how many times I'd get a complaint that "my pc won't turn on" only to find out that the PC WAS on, but they forgot to turn on their MONITOR.

Frozen Water Line....... VENT

I paid a handyman to go under my MH and install a heat tape. I bought a heavy duty (12 gauge wire) extension cord, heat tape and pipe wrap insulation. This was a few weeks before the temp dropped -- it was still running around 45 degrees here at night. I just found that my water line froze. So I wen...

I misread the warning. I thought the pilot in the WH didn't get lit. I just went back reread the message after seeing Greg's reply.

Re: New member - question about removing a wall

Ponch brings up a good point about bedrooms without a closet. If you do this, it will have a negative impact on the home value.

Also keep in mind that a closet can come in very handy even in an office -- it would be a great place for your office supplies and maybe the printer.

Re: New member - question about removing a wall

The only way that wall is load bearing is if the outside wall is failing(due to rot or something) causing the closet wall to now support the roof.

But I see no reason to believe it was ever intended to be a load bearing wall.

Re: Washe shaking the whole house

The washer could simply be off balance too. When you relocate a washer, you need to adjust the feet to make it level.
