Re: help with a well/pressure tank

Also water heaters need maintenance. I flush mine about once a year. Just drain it... Also there is an anode rod in there that is supposed to rust out before the tank. It's the big hex head on top of the water heater. You can try taking that out and see how it looks and if that is rusting out maybe...

Re: help with a well/pressure tank

What type of supply pipes do you have? Sometimes galvanized pipes can corrode internally and produce flakes of metal rust. If your well pump and pressure tank are producing adequate pressure then I wouldn't think the tank is at fault...sometimes the rubber diaphragm inside the tank will perforate an...

Re: leveling a home

On a side note do the box stores by you guys sell hardwood shims? None of them around me do. Nope...I haven't found any. I had to shop online and then I ended up with poplar, not oak shims. They've held up so far. I would think that plastic wedges may not hold as well as wood and may slip out under...

Re: Fastening underlayment to particle board

Decisions, decisions...it seems there are as many opinions on this subject as types and styles of flooring products(when I search the internet). I guess if the project is done thoughtfully and not carelessly in haste, any fastening system will work. My kitchen and bathroom vinyl tiles have both held...

Re: Fastening underlayment to particle board

To Greg in NY, I agree that replacing all the particle board would be the best solution for the long term. The original PB subfloor is in very good condition, except for a small patch I had to cut out by my front door and replace with 3/4" plywood...I just can't justify a total replacement at t...

Fastening underlayment to particle board

Hello All, Now that I'm down to the subfloor(11/16" particle board) on my dining room, I want to raise the floor up to the level of my kitchen floor. What are your thoughts on fastening plywood underlayment to the existing subfloor? I was thinking construction adhesive and 9/16" staples. O...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

Thanks for your experience with this product Asa, I'm looking forward to installing mine this spring. I have all the old carpet and padding removed now...I just have to lightly sand the particle board (Novadecking...is this stuff really particleboard?). You are doing a very nice job with your reno p...

Re: Doublewide back door sticking

I've got the same problem with my back door and one of my interior doors which is oriented in the same direction. Like you, I had re-leveled (raised) the one side of my MH that was slightly low last year. I assumed the home would settle after a couple of months, but perhaps I need to go back under a...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

LOL, I had forgotten about that episode with Tom until you mentioned it...he certainly helped me with some of his informative posts. RIP Tom. Started cutting some of the old carpeting loose from the walls just to check on the condition of the PB subfloor. 1987Commodore was right on...the lumps under...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

Thank you JD...I know the table leaves some pretty good indentations in the carpeting I have now. I was thinking of perhaps using a large round braided rug under the table as well, if the budget allows. I'm still leaning towards the Allure flooring but I probably won't get started on the project unt...

Re: Frozen pipes and propane shortage stories

Same shortages and higher prices for propane here in northern New England. Prices for gasoline and diesel are similar to Greg in NY. Remember that diesel i.e. kerosene (I think it's the same stuff) is also used to heat homes...that is what I use...and seems it is always priced about 50 cents higher ...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

Greg, I'll put up with subzero temperatures and 40" of snow for 4 months rather than a drought any day! Clean available water is more precious than most people realize, and we have plenty of it here in Maine...ask Poland Spring Company. JD or anyone, how does the Allure flooring hold up to havi...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

Thanks to all for your advice/experience. I really like the look of laminate flooring but it doesn't have the water-resistance of vinyl and is a bit more expensive. I should add that part of my dining room extends to the exterior front door, so that part of the floor sees a bit more traffic and &quo...

Dining Room Flooring

This spring (if it ever arrives this year) I am finally going to replace my dining room floor. The original covering consists of a very thin carpeting and equally thin padding over the particle board subfloor. I've debated which flooring to use (carpet tile, laminated, or vinyl) for quite awhile...s...

Re: Quieting A Metal Roof?

More information please...probably cheaper to remove oak tree(s) than replacing your roof or constructing a roof-over. In my opinion, no large trees should be anywhere near (within striking distance) of any house, MH or otherwise. Oaks are generally well-rooted and not subject to windthrow, although...
