Dead varmint smell under garden tub

As much as I could stomach - I have searched in, under, around my garden tub to locate the source of a dead varmint whose stench is permeating the whole house. I've even crawled under the house....and nothing. The smell is getting worse and I'm not sure I can keep down my lunch going in there again....

AC jungle

My inside unit is toast. Burned to a delicate crisp! The hunt to find a replacement unit so far is most frustrating - pricing varies from one side of the moon to the other, contractors seem to live on the moon, internet reviews fluctuate more than current bank stocks, and where the heck is the MSRP?...

RE: insurance adjusters opinion

Ahhh---the insurance companies - wo/man's best friend! Mine recently told me that my DW has a total life expectancy of 30 years. And being that it is now 10 years old - they pumped up my rate a full 14% this year. And oh...btw....I should expect another sizable increase at year 15. What I don't unde...

RE: Front Porch ideas

One thread....and a million answers!! I, too, am building a "cover" for my deck. The first deck area is 16' by 30' - and I have been pondering how to make it free standing. With JD's advice, I now believe I understand how to "join" the two roofs without directly attaching the dec...

Free standing deck - free standing roof

Bought the place a couple years back, and the roof that was over the deck was sagging a plenty. Add to it, the previous owner attached the roof to the house facia boards. (The covered area is 16W by 24L - and he ran a full 16 feet span on 2x4's placed about every 4 feet with 1x2 cross members laying...

RE: What are we getting into...lol

Another good "primer" product out there is called XIM. I believe it is carried by Sherwin Williams. Is it good? One of the marketing displays shows how well it bonds to glass. And there is a razor scraper hanging next to the display for you to try to scrape it off. It doesn't. With that be...

RE: Replacing under belly duct work

Robert, Currently, the belly is fully sealed with all of the duct work just laying on the ground except where it goes up to the floor registers. I envision coming off the "T", going out in each direction to make a 90 degree turn and then off of each elbow straight down each side. (There ar...

Re-engineer deck cover (aka extreme makeover)

I have a huge deck that wraps the entire east and south sides of a 48 x 24. Most of the decking is 12' wide, except a large section on the east side that is 16' wide. There is metal roofing covering this 16' wide section (about 24 feet'). It is attached to the facia boards on one side with some very...

Replacing under belly duct work

I'm noticing a huge difference in the amount of airflow from one side of the house verses the other. My ducts "T" at the furnace and then shoot straight down each side. My last visit to the crawlspace revealed a wad of duct tape at the "T" the size of Texas from the previous owne...
