Re: replace a door jam?

I have cut out the busted section on the jam side, and put in a section of trex balaster (composite wood decking) it is like 1 1/4 inch square and 36 inches long. I can then use the spade bit to make the hole for the dead bolt, or the striker part of a lock. I can also carve it to make the striker p...

Re: How can I reduce the dust in my room?

check the heating duct, be sure it is attached securely to the sub floor, and has no holes in it. put a flashlight down the next closest register opening, aim it towards the one in the problem room. take a mirror and put it down the hole, tilted so you can see the light... get depressed at all the st...

Re: floor insulation

Hi Bernie, the paneling is often a temporary fix, low tech, what concerns me more it that it failed. underbelly material and insulation missing in an area is often a sign of plumbing problems or other water leaks of some kind. the insulation gets wet and the weight pulls the underbelly and insulatio...

Re: replacement of MH kitchen water line...

Hi Sue, pex... I love the stuff..... I learned to do mh plumbing myself by using pex... the tricky part is always if/when you are trying to save an old section of plumbing in something else, and have to transition to the newer material... it usually only takes a couple dollars worth of the pex pipe ...

Re: SNAKES!

I, hum, hate to mention this... but we have the advantage of non venomous snakes.... so the guy at the mobile home park that unwound the 8 foot black rat snake from around the water heater to get it out of the house wasn't taking much of a risk.... it came back though, so they named him "George...

Re: Mobile home siding, resealing, aeration; what works?

belly wrap is the slang term/semi-technical term for the breathable material that is under the mobile home, there is the floor of the mobile home, then insulation, then the "belly wrap" which is also called under belly material...

Re: Interior wood paneling

the dry wall should be the 1/4 inch stuff to avoid increasing the weight unless you are willing to add the extra supports underneath the home is what I have heard. priming and painting the paneling alone is a huge improvement. It goes from the dark paneling look to much brighter, a country cottage l...

Re: Mobile home siding, resealing, aeration; what works?

check the under belly, be sure your belly wrap and insulation is good there, that is another common place that has problems. I know it is a little thing, but have you looked at the foam insulation inserts that can be put in outlet boxes (under the cover plate)? it may cut the draft while you are goi...

Re: Door bolt too long?

never mind I figured out your diagram, I did not see that the rest of the drawing showed stuff. like Greg said, some locks have different settings on them for depth. I would not have been able to get the holes to line up on the type I use if the depth ring was done wrong, but it is some thing to loo...

Re: Door bolt too long?

ok, this may be off based, are you talking about a regular door lock, not a deadbolt? and if so, the part that is in the door pushes into the hole in the door frame may be put in the wrong way... the part that is in the door and goes over into the hole in the frame nedd to have the curve facing the ...

Re: Glass storm door FRAME only?

do some research, there are water heaters that swirl the water inside as it fills (and empties?) that let less sediment settle. you can take a couple of gallons out of the drain of the water heater every month to also help limit the amount of sediment that builds up, until you can get that water sof...

Can you put the plastic furniture slider pads under the anti vibration pads? the unit should then be able to be slid into place... .
