Re: Weather strip under door

The weather strip "Door Sweep" should work in conjunction with the Threshold. If your door is the original, there should be an aluminum bar (part of the door frame) with a rubber insert, on the floor. The door should close up against or on top of this, depending on how the threshold is des...

Re: Fascia Board

The problem you will run into is the back side of the gutter and any fascia board you would add should be tucked up underneath that drip edge. This is something that would be done before roofing. An option would be to install some type of "Z" bar that would tuck under the existing drip edg...

Re: Attic Venting

Many manufacturers built mobile homes this way in the '80s. I worked on a few jobs where Fleetwood paid contractors to repair damage and retrofit edge and ridge vents. The damage was dry rotted marriage beams and the ends of the rafters. Law suits and voluntary repairs probably changed their buildin...

Re: roof help

I have coated roofs for 28 years and have probably experimented with a dozen products. While there may be similar products, I don't know if there is a better coating that Liquid Rubber EPDM coating. JMO. If your roof is more flexible than any I have seen (which I wouldn't know), then I would say you...

Re: Replacing old Poly stuff with PEX, have ?

These were Rifeng fittings which I bought from a company called PexSupply.com. They have now changed their name to SupplyHouse.com. I had used them for years with no issues and allowed me to buy very cheap in bulk. I presented the problem to them as well as a request for restitution. The very pleasa...

Re: roof help

The gray Elastomeric from Ame's will hold up to ponding water but I don't think it would last as long as Liquid Rubber. You might get by doing just the ponding areas. Overall, I have found Liquid Rubber to last longer. It is just a more expensive per gallon but actually cheaper per sq ft considering...

Re: Attic Venting

The best way to find out is to get your head up there and take a look. You can make an access panel in a closet. The older vaulted ceilings were a problem because they put roof sheathing on top and sheetrock on the bottom of 2x6's with no venting at all. After many law suits and repairs, they starte...

Re: Replacing old Poly stuff with PEX, have ?

The push fittings can get quite expensive when doing a whole home replumb. The reason for my post is different though. I have been plumbing homes for many years using PEx, with great results, until recently. If you have seen my posts, I tout the use of PEx and still do actually. But I wanted to let ...

Re: A Question for JD and the roofing experts...

Yes, foam board would have done a better job with the noise, the Polyiso more so than Polystyrene. It is denser. I doubt that 3/4" of polystyrene would be enough. It would take probably 2" of polyiso or 3" medium density polystyrene to get good results, making the polystyrene less pla...

Re: roof help

I use the Ame's product a lot. The Maximum Stretch is their best top coat product but it does not do well in ponding situations. I use Elastobarrier as a base coat and the Max as a top coat. Befoae coating I would clean well as you have done and either grind down rough spots or fill them as well as ...

Re: Need to paint non-paintable caulk

Denatured alcohol... snicker. If this is silicone, which I am thinking it is, nothing sticks to silicone. Not even silicone will stick to silicone. Your best bet is to remove it. They make a tool just for this and it works OK. Then reapply painters caulk. Have you tried a caulk tool before? You can ...

Re: crappy railing ends-caps keep falling off

That's funny Norm. These are aluminum railing with a weird shape. Kind of fat Christmas tree in silhouette. When the rail ends are new and perfect, the caps are hard to put on, When you finally slip it on, there is a spot on the bottom of the cap that can be screwed to the rail. The plastic cap must...

Re: Installing standard tub?

Typically there is a 12-14 inch square hole cut at the drain anyways. Have never had a problem installing a standard tub and drain assembly in a mobile home and I have installed many. Do want to keep the proper slope to the pipe though.

Re: Replace urine soaked insulation

All of the above suggestions are great. I would also use an anti odor spray and be sure all odor is gone before insulating and sealing it back up. I am not crazy about the Flex-Mend tape. Sometimes it does not stick well and the glue tends to dry out and release after a few years. You can still use ...

Re: Re-roof a Roof-Over?

I am thinking that if the R-panel was a better panel, it would be better for your home. The Ag panels definitely need 2' o.c. support, minimum. From time to time, we may need to walk our roofs to seal or install stuff. There is no way to walk a roof with 4' centers and not bend up the metal. If the ...
