My neighbor friend came around recently to admire my 6" aluminum seamless gutters which never overflow. Seems he recently installed 4" gutters and they overflow in a heavy rain.

Yes...an end wall splice can be in the wall or down under.

Mark is correct. Also look for possible plywood access panels down under.
