RE: Mobile home builders humor

JD, since my trailer is 23 years old, I wished I had found tools! That would have been really cool!

Mobile home builders humor

Most of you know that I've been working on re-insulating the under belly of my mobile home. I found this as I was working. Look closely at the picture and you will see it inscribed on the floor joists. http://mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/userpix/1397_trailer_builders_sense_of_humor_1.jpg It seems they...

RE: Painting Exterior This Weekend.....

Thank you for asking these painting questions since I'm anticipating doing the same thing myself eventually. One of my questions is whether or not I can cover the darker colored trim with white. Will it cover if I prime it?

I used 3/8" staples in my new electric staple gun to attach the insulation under the floor. I stapled the kraft paper edge to the inside edge of the floor joists. I had to cut several small pieces of wood that I pre-started screws into in order to attach the styrofoam board. It was hard trying ...

RE: Re-insulate under slide out

Someone told me I should cover the styrofoam with visqueen since mice like to eat the styrofoam. What think you all?

Re-insulate under slide out

My slide out was cold! There is no source of heat in it whatsoever. When investigating underneath, this is what I found. http://mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/userpix/1397_under_slide_out_1.jpg So, out came the old and in went the new kraft-faced 6 1/2" R-19 insulation between the floor joists and ...

RE: The ultimate challenge!

Mark, I have the manual and studied the section on underbelly repair all summer and perhaps I am just dense but I couldn't quite figure it out how I could cut the furring strips to the right length, make sure I had enough belly material and then try to get the whole piece under the trailer all by my...

The ultimate challenge!

As most of you know, I have been working all year on replacing broken pipes, installing foamboard insulation under the skirting, caulking everything in sight, and have managed to patch and replace insulation and belly board along both sides of the underneath of my home. The ultimate challenge remain...

RE: making progress on skirting insulation and access door

Thanks everyone. Your encouragement is priceless to me! I guess one of the bad things about living out in the middle of nowhere with no one I know close at hand, it's kind of hard to get opinions or instructions or have any kind of feedback. I ask the dog all the time but she just gives me this look...

RE: Does anyone here heat mostly with wood?

Last year, there was a huge wood heater in the pole barn which had 2 outlets on it and one of them was piped out through the pole barn, then underground about 20', then up under the rear of the trailer where it went into one of those squirrel cage deals and blew the heat through all of the registers...

making progress on skirting insulation and access door

I'm sure there will be lots of folks who will see mistakes here but it's the best I can do all by myself. I'm getting the foam board up that goes behind the metal skirting and am building a HUGE access door per the instructions in Mark's manual. All I had was some scrap wood but it seems to be comin...

RE: Does anyone here heat mostly with wood?

Thanks Jim. Do you keep the floor vents open? I'm not sure if I should keep them open or not. If the furnace comes on, they probably should be open but if I'm using the wood stove, maybe they should be closed.

Does anyone here heat mostly with wood?

If you heat mostly with wood, I wonder if you would share your tips with me on keeping things from freezing up underneath. I'm on a full cement slab with 1" styrofoam board under the skirting and have a heat tape on the incoming water line. I'm repairing the middle section of this 14 x 70 and r...
