Re: New kitchen cabinet advice

Only trouble I had with kitchen cabinets in mobiles is the walls that arent perfectly square, but a few shims will fix that.

Re: Metal Roof Leaks

I do know that Kool Seal recommends that outdoor temps be 50 degrees and lower humidity for best results, with 4 to 6 hours drying time. I would assume that a similar product would be the same.

Re: particle board...

Sad to say, many repairs are only as good as the ones doing them. Great idea to take things apart and have a better look. Give the plumbing/wiring a check, see if anything was put together that might be unsafe.

Re: particle board...

Osb CAN fall apart over time, but it would have to be a major leak, and you would see SOME material leftover(sawdust, wood chips) plus the house wrap would still be there in some way. Is it possible that someone did a crappy repair before you bought the home??? Post pics if you can, so we can check ...

Re: Questions about dryer lint under subfloors...

You can use flexible "plumbing straps" to hold up your vent pipe. Wrap it around the venting somewhat loosely, then run the other end of the strap to something sturdy underneath, then nail/screw the end up at the angle you need.

Re: Questions about dryer lint under subfloors...

When you setup your dryer venting, dont get too crazy with bends in the tubing. Easiest way is to go down through the subfloor, 90 degree bend, then out through the skirting. Makes it easier to clean out if/when you need to vacuum it out. Dont forget a dryer vent cap on the outside end so animals do...

Re: Re-siding an older mobile-home

I would recommend removing the metal siding, if nothing else just to see if there's anything that needs your attention. Rot, mold, or a lack of vapor barrier could be hiding underneath. If you do decide to go over the siding, use the method Greg S recommends. I would put something between the strips...

Re: Self-Contained Switches/Receptacles in Mobile Home

I agree with Greg here, those "mobile home" switches are junk. They can also be dangerous, due to the weak connections inside them. Ive even seen some that were so bad that when you gently bump the wall near the switch, the lights would flicker. In my opinion, Id spend a few bucks and use ...

Re: floor ruined - furnace cap leaking water in!!

With roof leaks, start at the top and work your way down. Caulk seams and nail holes/screw holes as you go down the roof, then caulk around windows and doors. Water is sneaky, take your time and be patient.

Re: Garden Tub

Id always replace the P-trap when replacing a tub, along with anything else drainage-wise that looks iffy. You dont want yet another "fun" trip under the home looking for leaks. I found some REALLY bad repairs downstream from my tub when I remodeled.

Re: Newbe

Ice dams on roof edges can certainly cause leaks. If water cant run off the edge of the roof, it can sneak through any tiny little spot and drip inside. Id say for now do the best you can to contain any leaks, gently knock down any icicles/ice off the roof edges, and get ready for inspection once th...

Re: replace all water lines?

Replacing the water lines can be done, but its time consuming. Consider using PEX tubing for the lines. If your time and budget allow, Gregs idea would work great for you. Cut the belly material as necessary to replace the water lines. Check for any water leaks afterwards, replace insulation if its ...

Re: Wall and floor help

Its tough to replace that small strip of subfloor underneath the wall. What many have done is cut the subfloor as flush as possible to the base of the wall, and add some blocking underneath to give something to screw to. Then lay down plywood and screw the plywood to the blocking underneath. If you ...

As for drills, use the best quality/most powerful one you can afford. I have an older Black and Decker I got at a pawnshop for $10. Made in the USA, thats how old it is, lol... For bigger jobs I use my Dads Milwaukee drill from the early 70s. Big and heavy. Looks like a night in jail, but works grea...
