Re: Changing water heater from elec. to gas

WildIrish, I'm new to the forum but I'll take a stab at it anyway. You said that your water heater was in a tiny room accessible from only the outside. Sounds like your home was designed for a gas water heater and as long as the intake vent and chimney flue are clear you should be able to resolve t...

Re: Question About Rope Caulk

I bought some rope caulk, and I hate it. It's stiff and sticky, very hard to manipulate. Maybe it's because I bought the Ace brand instead of a major brand. Either way, I ended up ripping the stuff out and using regular caulk to fill the gaps, even the large ones. Much better! :)

My unit's fine - Am asking about the ducts

Our Coleman furnace is in the middle of our double-wide, and heat comes out great from the middle of the MH, all the way to the back bedrooms. Our problem is the living room, on the other end of the house. The air that's coming out is lukewarm, at best. It's never been particularly warm, but it's es...

Re: Door knob hole in wall

What I did was to go to Ace Hardware and get one of those round stick-on panels that's made especially for protecting a wall from doorknob damage. They're roughly the size of a CD, or maybe a little bigger (I can't remember--it's in our old house). Though they're made for preventive use, they work g...

Re: NO VOC BONDING PRIMERS/PAINTS

I'm interested in the answer to this, too. No exotic pets here (though I love animals!), but we have severe allergies and need recommendations for No VOC products, as well. :)

Re: Changing water heater from elec. to gas

Bumping, in the hopes somebody will answer my question. I may have a dangerous situation on my hands here at home...? Thanks! :)

Isn't that annoying? We don't get CMT on our cable system, which is too bad, as I'd like to see that show, too. :(

Re: Changing water heater from elec. to gas

To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning you MUST have a Unit designed and approved for Mobile home use. (snip) You will also need to install a roofmounted Vent, drill holes in the roof and flooring.... Well, that's scary stuff. We have a gas water heater in our MH, but I don't know if it's made for mobi...

Re: Merry Christmas...

Sorry I haven't been around much of late, but I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and all the best for 2010!

Also, regarding Xmas greetings in other languages, the Japanese more commonly say "Meri kuri", which is a shortened form of "Merry Christmas". :)

Re: Is a mobile home practical for my family?

I figure if we paid cash for a mobile then lot rent would be only $295 in one park or $310 in the other. Home owners would be approx $40 (rough quote). We saw this whole housing crisis coming, which is why we decided to pay cash for a MH on a foundation in a real lot, rather than in a park. It's in...

We just had the latticework on the north side of our porch destroyed by high winds. I was bemoaning the loss of it, until I read about your plight. Makes me glad we have no trees on our property. :( Best of luck to you in finding a suitable replacement MH for your family. And please heed Greg's warn...

If it's any consolation, quality problems abound in stick-built homes, as well. It's that lack of work ethic that has plagued civilization in recent decades, and the DIY industry has boomed as a result. :(

Our former stick-built home had a window like that BESIDE the door...facing west. In Arizona. You can imagine the results.... What I did was to find a piece of cardboard and cut it carefully to fit the size of that window. Because the window had a pretty stained-glass pattern that we wanted to show ...
