Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

Devon, will do what I can with pics, but it's sometimes a bit hard when you're in the thick of things. And, mostly it'll be routing lines underneath, where things are a bit difficult to really see. Probably the most interesting aspect would be the manifolds and some of the end-point connections. Mos...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

"Are your cabinets not as deep (front to back) as standard" Yes, NOT standard. I don't recall what the measurements were (depth- front-to-back being key). There isn't enough counter space (due to bracing/supports and front of cabinets) to cut out for a standard sink. Believe me, it would h...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

JD, thanks for the input. Here's what I found from Uponor's Aquapex Installation Guide on this subject: Along horizontal runs, install supports every 32". If horizontal runs are continuously supported (truss-to-truss), install a tube talon every second or third truss. Follow local code requirem...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

I'm back to my plumbing job research... for some reason I'm unable to get the Forum's Search function to find any hits for "PEX" (not even for a thread that I started!) So... more questions... Do folks who install PEX secure the tubing underneath (tack to joists for runs) or just let it ha...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

It's pretty decent. But, there's many more out there that are nicer (but would not fit). As previously noted, this, and a slightly different model from the same manufacturer were the ONLY sinks that would work (that were single bowl). Ended up getting a rack for the bottom as well (that was a non-es...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

A follow-up... Gee, I'm starting to feel like I'm talking to myself here (only my wife and dog are exposed to the real thing  ) I was able to discover that the proximity issue/question doesn't have anything to do with thermal issues; it's more about just what one would expect- flex*, and the co...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

Greg, you always have good answers/solutions! Thanks! Ran across a couple of bits of info (from PPFA http://www.ppfahome.org/pdf/PEX%20Handbook_draft_rev_2008.pdf) as pertains to my questions/concerns: Manifolds shall be installed at least 36" away vertically, or 18" away horizontally from...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

Any ideas on dealing with the lines to toilets? These are out and naked... Yes, I'm HOPING that the belly is not as bad as it looks (clearly folks who tried to close it up didn't have a clue about using the right materials!). But... that big blue tarp is lurking... If there's anything that I've lear...

Re: PEX (plumbing) questions

Greg, thanks for the input! Yes, the shutoffs on the outside faucets! I had a mental note to do this. Regarding the attaching of the lines under cabinets, are you saying that you run the lines back against the wall? What do you use to anchor with? (would like something that looks good) Right now eve...

PEX (plumbing) questions

I'm in the process of assessing a project for replacing all my plumbing with PEX and have a few questions that I have been unable to get clarification on from reading previous postings here. 1) Can I used PEX to connect up directly to my hot water heater (tank), or do I HAVE to have copper flex line...

Re: Kitchen faucet lines.

My brains are a bit fried right now (I'm also working up a plan to re-plumb w/PEX, among several other projects...), but I ran into a screwy problem when I went to do my bathroom sink faucets. My episode might be similar to yours... I have CPVC pipe, not PB, though I also have supply lines with non-...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

Nothing exciting here, not fancy (old cabinets still). Just wanting to conclude my episode, and to show a couple of pics in case they'd be of use to someone contemplating a sink replacement.

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

Aaron, thanks for the suggestion. We'd looked at these, and while we liked them, they won't fit our current cabinetry :-( Jim, we'd love to be able to replace the cabinets (could have gotten a standard sink!), but have so many other pressing priorities... (hot water tank is on the horizon- 12 years ...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

I gauge on value, value as pertains to how important something is and how much it's used. Our current sink is just slightly more functional than "useless." Lots of time is wasted juggling stuff around. At just 5" deep it's nearly impossible to wash pots: it's hard for my diminutive wi...
